What Your Job Will Be Like:

We are seeking an experienced candidate within the domain of network architecture & engineering for an exciting opportunity designing a wide range of network solutions. In this role (Solutions Architect SE), you will shape the future of wide area networking and the cloud network stack in an automation first organization. You will work closely with research and development organizations to design innovative network solutions to meet mission need.

You will have a strong foundation in both design and engineering along with fantastic operational problem-solving skills. You enjoy mentoring others and relish learning something new every day.

On any given day, you may:

Design and architect Sandia’s network, ensuring it supports current & future needs and ensuring it remains highly available and scalable.

Evaluate and recommend network technologies, hardware, and software solutions.

Troubleshoot and resolve complex network issues to minimize downtime.

Demonstrate adaptability and creativity resolving operational issues and be accountable for minimizing downtime.

Seek feedback and peer review as part of a standardized approach across the entire enterprise organization.

Collaborate with customers and stakeholders to understand and satisfy network requirements.

Conduct sophisticated performance tuning as well as network performance benchmarking on a regular basis.

Apply continuous improvement methodologies and lean heavily on automation to solve complex network problems.

Build, manage and support large scale hybrid networks.

Develop software-based network solutions using Python or other languages used in infrastructure automation.

Work with protocols and technologies such as TCP/UDP, IPv4/IPv6, BGP/MP-BGP, IPSec, VPN, L2 switching, EVPN, VxLAN, IP Routing, etc.

Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite 60% of the time.

Salary Range:

$130,100 - $258,900

*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.

Qualifications We Require:

B.S. in Engineering, Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or equivalent experience and 6+ years of experience in network engineering.

Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q level security clearance.

Qualifications We Desire:

M.S. in Engineering, Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or equivalent experience and 10+ years of experience in network engineering.

Experience designing and implementing network security technologies.

Experience using an automated configuration management system (Terraform, Chef, Puppet, Ansible, Salt, etc.).

Prior leadership experience demonstrating achieving objectives despite challenging timelines, ambiguous requirements, or situations of uncertainty.

The Communication and Network Systems Department provides vital services for Sandia's California Laboratory. These services include telecommunication infrastructure, on premise & cloud-based networks, and cyber security resources. The telecommunications services ranges from providing advanced mobile devices to the most protected communication systems available to satisfy our customer's needs. The multi-layer networking infrastructure utilizes the latest technology specializing in high speed communications and advanced infrastructure management. Our Cyber Security programs provide the assurance that all aspects of our California Laboratory are appropriately managed. Our organization's responsibility includes design, implementation, maintenance, and customer service of each element of our business. Security Clearance:
