Overview Plans and coordinates health program requiring application of engineering, mechanical, chemical, and psychological principles and technology to analyze and control conditions. Promotes worksite or product safety and health for the well-being of customers and the community. Leads the ISO 14001/45001 certification process, maintenance and continuous improvement of all subsidiary processes.

Pay range for this position is $98,000 - $110,000/year based on experience.

Local candidates preferred for this position.

Responsibilities

Lead ISO 14001/45001 certification process, create framework and manage all aspects of an effective EHS management system

Own Safety Training program for tenured employees and new hires. Review and incorporate updates in accordance with California law and regulations.

Develop and operate an effective Safety Committee. Own incident investigations, determination of Root Cause and Corrective Action, and verification of Effectiveness

Conduct evaluations and inspections for unsafe conditions via Equipment Validation (IQ, OQ, PQ) and Job Hazard Analysis (by process)

Ensure compliance with regulatory agencies including but not limited to: Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), California Environmental Protection Agency (CalEPA), County Dept of Environmental Health, City of San Diego Wastewater Officials.

Collaborate with consultants, contractors, and employees to improve processes, plans, procedures, and overall compliance of Environmental Management System (EMS)

Monitor and assess existing and emerging Environmental regulations and determine appropriate policy and procedures for regulatory compliance

Maintain documentation of all EMS programs, results and reports

Prepare and maintain accurate documentation consistent with the requirements of pertinent regulations and K-Tube’s Quality Management System where applicable

Support hazardous waste management, ensuring proper disposal of waste items.

Serve as site contact for regulatory inspections and audits

Oversee required regulatory and program reporting

Maintain accurate and timely reports and records

Develop improvements for engineering and administrative controls

Conduct compliance audits to identify potential workplace issues, program deficiencies, and liabilities

Respond to first aid and emergencies regarding fire, inclement weather, or chemicals

Serve as Lead Auditor for K-Tube’s Health and Safety Program

Promote employee engagement with Safety (suggestion box, safety committee, Daily Floor walk)

Qualifications Education and Experience:

5 years in a manufacturing environment with responsibilities as an Environmental Health and Safety Engineer.

Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Health and Safety, engineering, occupational safety, industrial hygiene, and/or scientific-related discipline.

EHS experience including in Chemistry, RCRA or Industrial Hygiene (air and noise sampling) preferred.

OSHA, DOT, RCRA, HAZWOPER, EPA, ISO training preferred.

Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Strong working knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations and industry standards (i.e. Cal-OSHA regulations, compliance programs, Environmental regulations, hazardous materials and chemical management)

Expertise across multiple HSE disciplines including process safety, chemical safety, and industrial hygiene.

Strong organizational and time management skills.

Must have effective communication skills and ability to work in a collaborative and independent work situations and environments with minimal supervision.

Proficient with MS Word, Excel and Power Point

Physical Requirements

Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds

Light to moderate physical effort required

Regularly required to sit or stand, reach and move about the facility

Work Environment

Work performed in both a manufacturing and office environment

Exposure to metals, lubricants, solvents, electrolytes and other hazardous materials

Professional environment requiring business casual attire

Personal Protective Equipment

ANSI Z87.1 complian safety glasses and ASTM F2413.18 compliant safety shoes are required

Other personal safety equipment required as listed in SDA depending on task, may include safety goggles, hearing protection, full-face shield, apron, arm guards, rubber boots, and gloves
