Job Description
Job Title: Package Operator
Reports to: Production Supervisor
Job Purpose: Maintain production flow of materials from machine to warehouse. Ensure quality of output, correct paperwork, labelling of products and inspect packaging to prevent contamination or damage. Maintain safe working practices and House-keeping standards
Main Tasks and responsibilities:
· Wear PPE as required by Company rules and in all circumstances where common sense dictates
· Maintain safe working practices as instructed and avoid unnecessary risks. Contribute to safety by reporting hazards, near misses, injuries or accidents
· Ensure team area is maintained to correct standards. Work as a team member to keep the standards when others are busy or absent.
· Review all paperwork, labels, color charts etc. to make sure they are consistent with the production order. Print additional labels as necessary, always ensuring that the details are correct to the order and previous boxes
· Complete production log throughout the shift to a standard that will enable analysis and corrective action to be carried out based on the biggest areas of concern. Always give information why a machine went down, what was done to re-start, any details of mold issues on the mold card (including shot samples where appropriate) and all quality issues and concerns. Liaise with PT to provide consistent and accurate data on issues, resolutions and timing
· Using gloves provided do thorough sort through each box, inspecting for issues such as flash, short shots, haze, voids etc. that do not comply with the matching sample. If in doubt, work with QA to determine whether acceptable and if not find a PT as quickly as possible to correct the situation or to have them shut down the machine to avoid unnecessary scrap
· When box inspected and closed, put square on skid to ensure box alignment, label the box and initial the label or green dot as required by individual customers.
· When skid complete move to wrapping machine. Review pallet stack to ensure no boxes or parts will be damaged. Once inspected put on Auto Wrapper.
· Enter required information into computer to provide information for management and teams to work on continuous improvement process.
· Work as a team member to analyze problems in your area or in the factory as a whole and then to brainstorm, problem solve to improve or eliminate processes, procedures and work practices that improve safety, quality, housekeeping, scrap reduction, machine uptime or other areas of productivity
· Keep area clear, safe and clean at all times. Clean up or report oil, water, resin, colorant or other spills, remove trip or other hazards
· Other work as required by Management i.e. cleaning of hoppers, pump room, grinders etc.
Key attributes:
· Must be able to read instructions, production orders, simple drawings and follow instructions given by Supervisor.
· Must be a team player, work to safe standards and have a ‘can do’ and ‘do it right’ attitude where good products and customer service are paramount.
· Capable of maintaining concentration over a 12 hour shift to inspect product to given standards and maintain a safe working environment.
· Able to lift weights up to 50lbs without causing strains or injury
· Ability to write clearly, contribute to improvements and look for opportunities to avoid problem areas before they cause safety, quality or cost issues.
Working Conditions:
· Work is arranged in four shifts of 12 hours each. While full consideration will be given for employee preferences the role may require you to work on any given shift should the need arise. As much notice as possible will be given to enable arrangements to be made
· Hours include two 15 minute paid breaks and 30 minutes unpaid lunch break. There is a 30 minute period between shifts for proper hand-over between shifts
· All work is carried out at Mauer’s Hebron Facility so employees need to be able to travel to this facility in time to clock in for the beginning of a shift
· All factories carry inherent safety risks. It is the employees responsibility to understand and follow all safety instructions, including wearing PPE
