The Director of Finance directs and oversees the overall operation and administration of the accounting, finance, and financial reporting requirements of the organization.
Essential Job Functions/Responsibilities - Approximate 40% of time in this area
Directs and oversees accounting and audit activities
Prepares and reviews the recording of accounting transactions including vendor invoice review, vouchering and payment, deposits and cash receipts, recurring and one-time journal entries, monthly closings and invoice preparation. Prepares and coordinates external audits that are required by contracts and regulatory bodies. Directs and oversees financial reporting activities - Approximate 30% of time in this area
Administers financial reporting system. Prepares and reviews monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements. Prepares and reviews specialized program cost reports. Maintains and reports information relative to Contract, Grant, and Regulatory compliance. Directs and oversees organization and program/contract budget development - Approximately 20% of time in this area
Monitors contractual financial compliance activities, and identifies, addresses and corrects issues. Assist with programmatic contractual compliance activities, as necessary. Researches, analyzes, develops, prepares and reviews corporate and program/departmental budgets. Monitors actual results versus budget and analyzes budget variances. Provide technical consultation and analysis - Approximately 10% of time in this area
Conducts and prepares analysis in support of management decision making. Provides technical assistance on accounting, finance, and budgeting matters to management staff. Conducts analysis and communicates recommendations to management staff regarding costs, revenue and program financial performance. Education and Experience

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college/university in Accounting or a related field; and five to seven years of related experience and/or training; or any equivalent combination of training and experience. 5 years accounting and financial reporting management experience. Certified Public Accountant, preferred Public Accounting experience, preferred Ability to communicate effectively (written and oral) Ability to work with a diverse population. Ability to read and comprehend instructions, and prepare correspondence, and memos. Ability to work flexible hours and travel as needed (evening/weekend hours). Knowledge of computers, including proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and the Internet. Must be available to attend meetings and meet the needs of the department/agency throughout the city as needed. Required Skills/Abilities
