02 Dec 2024 Eastern Standard Time Applications close: General Summary: The Assistant Director of Student Success provides leadership to student success and retention initiatives within the Manning College of Nursing and Health Sciences. They will also serve as a student success coach through one-on-one interactions with students. They will take on leadership of already established initiatives, as well as developing new methods of student support within the Manning College. They will lead a peer mentorship program, supervising graduate student success coaches and undergraduate peer mentors. They will assist with coordination of first-year learning communities and develop an intervention system for at-risk students. Specific responsibilities will vary depending on the needs of the students. The Assistant Director will foster a sense of belonging to encourage students to persistence towards graduation. The Assistant Director will work with MCNHS leadership and the Senior Director of the Office of Student Success and Engagement (OSSE) to develop evidence-based strategies to support student success and transitional student programs. They will provide an added layer of support to the student services specialist during high need times of advising and orientation. Examples of Duties: Proactively support students through one-on-one meetings to aid their success. Coach students on goal setting and provide resources to aid their success. Provide leadership to, in conjunction with the Senior Director of Student Success and Engagement, a peer mentorship and student success program. Including, but not limited to, supervising, leading, and providing on-going training to graduate success coaches, and peer mentors. Coordinate student recruitment processes each year for student success coaches, peer mentors, and participants in the first-year learning community. Coordinate learning community program, including the recruitment of students, and instructors to teach a 1-credit transitional course to new to UMB students. Responsibilities include weekly sessions, updating course syllabus, collaborating with UMB partners, evaluating student work, etc. Participate in all university yield events such as fall Open House program, and spring Welcome Days. Foster persistence in students by developing and leading an early alert intervention program. Working with both faculty and staff to support students. Create programming and learning opportunities to students to stay on track to maintain good academic standing. Create and administer assessment tools to track effectiveness of programs in regard to retention or persistence rates. Utilize this information to make ongoing improvements to program offerings. Research and stay abreast of new trends in learning communities and student retention strategies. Collaborate with university offices and partners to ensure students become knowledgeable about resources available to them. Work as a member of the College to provide support and coverage, as possible for the ongoing operation of the College. Qualifications: Master’s Degree in Higher Education Administration, Counseling, Student Support Services or a closely related field. Minimum of 3-5 years of experience working in advising, student success, or implementing retention initiatives required. Experience working in a diverse, urban environment preferred.
