Job Description
This position would be primarily responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining company policies while ensuring strict compliance with all relevant employment laws, acting as a legal advisor to management on employee-related matters, and overseeing the company's overall legal posture regarding HR and employment law.
Responsibilities
Policy Development/Implementation
- Draft, review, and update company policies across all aspects of employment (hiring, performance management, disciplinary actions, leave, termination, etc.) to reflect current legal requirements and company objectives.
- Communicate and train managers and employees on new and updated policies.
- Monitor policy adherence and address non-compliance issues.
Legal Compliance
- Stay abreast of federal, state, and local employment laws, including changes and updates.
- Conduct regular compliance audits to identify potential legal risks and areas for improvement.
- Advise management on legal implications of HR decisions and practices.
- Represent the company in employment-related legal matters, including investigations and hearings.
Employee Relations
- Manage employee concerns, complaints, and grievances, ensuring fair and consistent handling within legal frameworks.
- Conduct thorough investigations into workplace issues like harassment, discrimination, and policy violations.
- Provide guidance to managers on addressing employee relations matters with legal considerations.
Risk Management
- Identify and mitigate potential HR-related legal risks through proactive measures and policy updates.
- Develop and maintain employee handbooks outlining company policies and legal compliance expectations.
Training and Development
- Deliver training sessions to managers and employees on employment laws, company policies, and best practices in employee relations.
- Provide ongoing legal updates and guidance to HR team members.
Position Requirements
Job Requirements
- 10+ Years of HR and/or Employee Relations Management experience
- Human Resource, Law, or Buiness Degree preferred
- Advanced knowledge of employment laws and regulations at the federal, state, and local levels
- Proven experience in policy development and implementation
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to assess legal risks and provide practical solutions
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively advise management and interact with employees
- Good track record of employment with at least one position of at least 5-year
- Ability to conduct investigations and document findings thoroughly
- Good track record of employment with at least 5 years at one company - no job hopping.
- Experience with HR management systems and legal databases preferred
