Job Summary

This position works as part of an interdisciplinary team of mental health professionals to provide psychiatry services for University of California, San Francisco students and scholars. The incumbent will consult regularly with SMHW mental health clinicians, including psychologists, social workers and concerning client/patient psychotropic medication management needs and overall mental health needs.

Student Mental Health and Wellbeing (SMHW) is committed to providing high quality, culturally responsive, holistic mental health care and wellbeing services to assist learners in achieving academic and professional success as well as lifelong health. SMHW is a resource for navigating personal concerns, identifying options, reducing stress and solving problems.

SMHW provides a safe and confidential place to discuss concerns related to one's personal life, academic experience, and professional development. Our psychiatrists and psychologists are experienced in addressing the needs of students from diverse and/or marginalized backgrounds. Students utilize services for a variety of concerns which include but are not limited to: managing stress; professional identity development; depression or anxiety; grief and loss; relationships with peers, faculty, roommates, family or romantic partners; drugs and alcohol; eating concerns; and issues related to cultural, gender and sexual identities.

SMHW also focuses on integrating health and wellbeing into all aspects of the UCSF experience through student-centered initiatives, wellness programs, campus education, training, and advocacy to support health-promoting environments and a thriving student population. Department Description

Student Health and Counseling Services (SHCS) is a division of Student Academic Affairs. SHCS's mission is to optimize the physical and mental health of students in order to help them achieve academic success, personal development and lifelong wellness. To accomplish this mission we: tailor our services to the unique needs of a diverse and multi-cultural student community, continuously evaluate and improve services to offer comprehensive, high-quality care, and strive to create a healthy and caring campus culture. SHCS staff (nurses, administrative staff, physicians, nurse practitioners, physicians, dietitian, counselors and psychiatrists) work collaboratively to provide integrated care to UCSF students.

Required Qualifications

Graduate of an accredited school of medicine. Successful completion of ACGME or AOA accredited residency/fellowship in Psychiatry. Clinical experience working with individuals from diverse backgrounds presenting with a wide range of psychological concerns and disorders. Up-to-date on evidence-based medication management for common psychiatric illnesses including, but not limited to, Major Depression Disorder, Bipolar Disorder, Generalized Anxiety Disorder, Panic Disorder, Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, PTSD, Eating Disorders. Experience providing brief individual counseling. Experience providing crisis assessment and intervention. Experience in combining psychotherapy and medication management to achieve best patient outcomes. Experience with ADHD assessment and treatment. Must be computer literate. Expert clinical skills. Must be able to communicate with both patients and clinical staff members. Must have effective diagnostic and decision-making skills in area of specialty/expertise. Must be able to work in a collaborative manner. Must be able to diagnose patient condition and make associated treatment recommendations. Requires knowledge of electronic/medical records systems.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience working on a college campus or with college students, preferably graduate students. Able to work with technology. Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a team. Experience with trauma including sexual assault.

License/Certification

Unrestricted CA medical license and unrestricted DEA. Must be Board Certified and current in specialty as needed by location to be verified by the American Board of Medical Specialties and be in possession of the legal requirements for the practice of medicine in California to be verified by California Medical Board.
