Departmental Overview The Department of Psychology is a large, complex department within the College of Letters and Science (Division of Social Sciences). The Department includes close to 60 faculty members (including emeriti), 27 career staff, several lecturers, a number of visiting scholars and postdocs each year as well as a large cadre of Graduate Student Instructors and Graduate Student Researchers. The fundamental missions of the University, teaching, research and community service, are all met by the Department. Our teaching program is quite large. Psychology is an impacted major with 800 undergraduates and Department courses serve approximately 8000 students yearly. In addition, it offers a large menu of courses during the summer sessions each year. The Department has approximately 100 graduate students pursuing doctoral degrees in five specialized sub-fields. In research, the Department supports the work of 35 life science labs in work with both human and animal subjects as well an off-site Field Station. Psychology is closely linked with several major research institutes/ORU's on campus: The Institute of Human Development, the Institute of Personality and Social Research, the Institute of Cognitive and Brain Science; and the Helen Wills Neuroscience Institute and works in collaboration with their administration to meet the needs of our faculty. The Psychology outpatient clinic serves the surrounding community by providing vital, low-cost psychiatric treatment and functions as a recharge unit. Position Summary The PsychTech position is necessary in order to meet the IT needs of faculty, students, and staff of the Psychology Department. Key elements of that are providing direct end user support to faculty and students, systems maintenance and integration to facilitate effective research, and maintaining cyber security for large amounts of highly sensitive research and clinic patient data by ensuring the department is in compliance with campus security policies and best practices. Responsibilities Security Act as the primary contact for security for the Unit, in consultation with the Unit Head. Liaise between the Unit, College of Letters and Science, and UC Berkeley Information Security Office (ISO). Identify and inventory Institutional Information and IT Resources the Unit uses, ensuring Protection Level and Availability Level classifications in Socreg, and identifying an IT Resource Proprietor for systems procured or installed. Implement security controls for the Unit, devising procedures for handling, storing, and disposing of electronic media under applicable policies, laws, and contracts. Create, review, and update risk assessments, risk treatment, and security plans for the Unit (including MSSEI Self-Assessment Plans for P4 assets), and remediate previously granted exception agreements. Review and maintain access rights, including managing privileged access, and ensure prompt responses to security incidents from the ISO. Actively monitor the UCB-Security mailing list and participate in the ISO Security Workgroup. Promote good cybersecurity practices and assist teammates in resolving cybersecurity issues. Regularly patch systems and applications, and review all access rights, removing those no longer needed. Review and update Risk Assessments for applications in collaboration with Vendor Security Assessment Service. Report cybersecurity incidents to CISO/ISO, the Unit Head, and applicable entities. Monitor high-risk data and systems for compromise. Understand, interpret, adapt, and ensure compliance with UC Minimum Security Standards (MSS), MSSEI, and Minimum Security Standards for Networked Devices (MSSND). Implement the UC Berkeley Electronic Information Security Incident Response Plan. Develop and annually review the Unit-Level Information Security Management Program Security Plan. Understand and implement the Campus-Level Information Security Management Program (ISMP). Review information security metrics, assets, registrations, and Security Contacts through Socreg, confirming Protection Levels with Security Contacts. Collaborate with HR to ensure consistent processes for managing information security. Liaise with ISO on IS-3 implementation priorities. Draft and annually review the Incident Response Plan, communicating updates to affected employees. Create System Security Plans (SSP) for in-house applications and formal incident response plans, training users to report security issues and understand security roles. Develop a Business Continuity/Disaster Recovery Plan ensuring information security continuity. Ensure HIPAA & FERPA compliance in faculty research and clinic operations. Proactively monitor vulnerabilities for platforms and implement patches or mitigations as needed. Communicate Protection Levels and Availability Levels of services to users, reassessing if classifications change, and ensure users understand their security responsibilities. Use the policy exception process for unmet security requirements. Comply with the UC Electronic Communications Policy (ECP) and Berkeley's Online Monitoring Policy on electronic communications inspection. Ensure Supplier compliance with UC BFB IS-3, including UC's Data Security and Privacy Appendix when external third parties are used. System Administration Manage faculty, graduate student researcher, and staff MacOS and Windows computers, including laptops used off-site. Manage Windows servers, Active Directory users, computers, security groups, and Group Policy for departmental IT infrastructure. Manage desktop & network printers, multifunction copiers. Ensure departmental compliance with campus IT policies. Advise and assist faculty, staff, researchers, and students in using web-based resources for personal, lab, and course websites, as well as assist with web-based research. Interact with senior-level internal personnel, gathering, analyzing, and summarizing recommendations for approval of system and programming documentation. Troubleshoot and resolve technology-based problems; perform other miscellaneous duties as necessary to support general research functions. Develop and manage the Department website, including hand-coding, graphic design, responding to inquiries, updating content, and ensuring compliance with campus guidelines, Computer Use Policies, and WCAG 2.0 level AA standards under the Berkeley Digital Accessibility Program. End User Technical Support Serve as the primary contact for department end-user technical support. Assist faculty, staff, and students with computer hardware, Zoom, Google Suite, Box, VPN, DocuSign, Wi-Fi and Ethernet, telecom, etc. Provide IT and audiovisual (AV) technical support for department events. Technology Service Integration Initiate and conduct product research and implement solutions that improve the effectiveness and efficiency of department business processes. Provide local expertise for campus bConnected systems such as Google Suite (email, calendar, storage, mailing lists), Box (storage), DocuSign, Zoom, Qualtrics, and SharePoint/CalShare. Manage departmental Google Shared Professional Account (SPA) accounts and Google Drive shared drives. Select and purchase computer and audiovisual hardware. Liaise with other technical departments on and off campus, including Docusign, Qualtrics, IT Client Services, 3Play Media, Pantheon.io, Google Analytics, etc. Audiovisual Support Manage audiovisual systems including projectors, audio equipment, and course capture hardware in department classrooms. Manage displays and projectors in conference rooms. Manage digital signage systems. Assist with recording, streaming, editing, and closed captioning of special events. General understanding of campus information security policies or equivalent knowledge/experience in a similar setting. Skills in Drupal, WordPress, and AWS or the ability to quickly learn them. Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training. Preferred Qualifications Programming experience with Python, Django and MySQL in AWS environments.
