What does this role involve?
The Electrical Engineering Manager will be responsible for leading a team providing engineering services to projects in mining, minerals & metals and heavy industrial sectors. Activities include leading and managing a team of electrical engineers & designers in development of electrical design for front end engineering, PFS, FS and detailed design phases of multi-discipline projects. This role reports to the Director, Engineering.

The Electrical Engineering Manager will be responsible for leading a team providing engineering services to projects in mining, minerals & metals and heavy industrial sectors. This role reports to the Director, Engineering.
Accountabilities:
- Ensure all employees are supervised, trained and competent to fulfil the responsibilities of their role.
- Plan required resourcing to meet business deliverables and work with HR to recruit and select staff.
- Lead and motivate employees by setting direction and expectations, managing performance and encouraging continuous improvement and a culture of feedback.
- Address employee relations issues including work schedules, secondments, leave, training and payroll issues etc.
- Use performance management and development processes to drive a performance culture and support employee development.
- Ensure employee compliance to legislative requirements, company policies, and procedures.
- Apply due care of the environment, health and safety of yourself and others.
- Support Project Development activities through the concept setting and review process.
- Inform and communicate with existing and potential clients and liaise with the Project Development team to ensure client needs are met.
- Networking through the industry to ensure existing contacts are maintained and new contacts are made as the industry changes.
- Liaise with management to review design problems or assist in client negotiations.
- Attend to the technical aspects of request for quotations and technical literature.
Design Management
- Co-ordinate project design activities within the Discipline to ensure the achievement of quality, completion and profit objectives.
- Select and monitor the performance of external consultants in the discipline.
- Supervise the work of subordinate Design Engineers and Drafting staff to ensure compliance with technical standards.
- Prepare budgets and time schedules for management approval and plan assigned projects.
Quality Management
- Participate in the development and continuous improvement of the Quality management process and system.
- Ensure Sedgman standard specifications, typical/standard drawings, and calculations/simulations to reflect current industry best practice.
Sustainability
- Maintain awareness and consider the application of the Sustainability Guidelines as set out in the EGBC Professional Practice Guidelines.
Qualifications:
- Minimum 10 years' experience in design/consultancy environment in engineering capacity
- Coal and/or Metals industry experience
- Experience in leading and managing technical/project teams.
- Experience in heavy industry environment.
Desired skills, knowledge and experience:
- Active P. Eng. accreditation from EGBC
- Experience in project management.
- Skills in MS Office suite
