Key Essential Functions and Accountabilities of the Job
- Collaborates with members of the surgical and multidisciplinary teams in assessing, planning and implementing surgical intervention in management of patient's peri-operative health care and safety.
- Responsible for inventory of supplies, outdates, and par levels, notifying appropriate staff with supply order needs.
- Takes initiative in reporting equipment in need of repairs.
- Corrects breaks in aseptic techniques by any person, in order to provide optimum care.
- Adheres to the Association of periOperative Registered Nurses (AORN) Standards of Care and Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI) standards for sterilization practices in the Health Care Facilities.
- Provides services to all hospital inpatient wards, the operating room, outpatient clinics and the emergency room.
- Accurately monitors biologicals to ensure sterility and adhering to equipment processing regulation to ensure personnel safety.
- Responsible for daily biologicals on autoclaves and Steris machines.
- Reports monthly biological monitoring and number of items flashed in the autoclaves to the OR Manager; reports failed loads, positive biologicals and wet loads immediately.
- Other duties as assigned
- This position does not require supervisory responsibilities.
Education, Certifications, and Licenses Required:
- Basic Life Support
- High School Diploma or equivalent - required
- One to two years Endoscopy experience -preferred
- Endoscopic procedures and how scopes and instrumentation are used for each procedure
- Proper use of all sterilization and HLD (high level disinfection) equipment as well as the decontamination process, prep and package, sterile storage and distribution
- Use aggressive patient management techniques to diffuse any patient/visitor/peer volatile situations
