SUMMARY:

Performs any combination of following instructional tasks in classroom to assist teaching staff of public or private elementary or secondary school by performing the following duties.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Serves as a positive role model for students. Maintains strict confidentiality in all matters. Discusses assigned teaching area with classroom teacher to coordinate instructional efforts. Follows a lesson outline and plan in assigned area under the supervision of the classroom teacher. Plans, prepares, and develops various teaching aids such as bibliographies, charts, and graphs. Operates copier and other typical school equipment such as TV/VCR's, and may be expected to learn a word processing package on a computer. Presents subject matter to students, utilizing variety of methods and techniques such as lecture, discussion, and supervised role playing. Administers and grades examinations as directed by the classroom teacher. Assists students, individually or in groups, with lesson assignments to present or reinforce learning concepts. Confers with parents on progress of students. Assists with individual and small group activities. Keeps information confidential. Maintains required licenses or certificates. Demonstrates regular and predicable attendance and reports to work on time. Participates in planning and staff meetings. Helps instill in students the belief in and the practice of ethical principles and democratic values. Performs all other duties as required or requested by the principal and superintendent.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

May be assigned supervision of small and large groups of students in the classroom, lunchroom and on the playground.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION AND /OR EXPERIENCE:

Associate Degree or two years of college course work from an accredited college or university, or a passing score on the ODE paraprofessional test.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports. Ability to speak effectively before groups of students or employees of organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

TECHNOLOGY SKILLS:

The employee will have an operational knowledge of either Macintosh or Windows based computers and related technology. The employee will take advantage of all district level technology training that is appropriate to their teaching assignment.

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

Must have a valid Ohio teacher aide certificate.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to manipulate, handle, or feel objects; tools; controls; reach with hands and arms; and taste or smell. The employee will be expected to lift and move typical classroom equipment such as overhead projectors, TV/VCR's, and computers on moveable carts.

The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

The employee will be using either Macintosh or Windows based computers and related technology on a regular basis.

The employee is determined to be at risk of exposure to bodily fluids including blood, human tissue or body fluids and must make "universal precautions" a standard operating procedure.

PERFORMANCE EVALUATION:

The employee will be evaluated in accordance with the district requirements and within the timelines specified by law.
