RN - Trauma Performance Improvement

Under the direction of the Trauma Coordinator this position is responsible for data collection and entry of trauma for this Level 3 Trauma Center. This person works with the coordinator to develop and track performance improvement projects based off of benchmarking reports. This position also participates in community outreach, staff education and injury prevention initiatives.

Actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

* Collects and timely enters required data into the trauma registry * Assigns and scores all injuries utilizing the AIS and ICD 10 scoring system * Completes and verifies accuracy for all data collected * Ensures compliance with National Trauma Data Bank, Trauma Quality Improvement Program, and Kansas Trauma Registry Standards * Mandatory registry specific training and performance improvement continuing education requirements * Participates in educational outreach programs * Collaborates with the Trauma Coordinator to provide trauma specific nursing staff education * Analyzes TQIP benchmarking reports and identifies opportunities for improvement * Develops performance improvement projects and reports progress to Trauma Coordinator * Collaborates with the Trauma Coordinator to provide follow up and education to outside facilities and EMS agencies * Collaborates with the Trauma Coordinator to initiate Injury Prevention activities based on Trauma registry data. * Performs primary step in the process improvement reviews, documents appropriately, and communicates with the Trauma Coordinator

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

* Proficient at computer/keyboarding skills * Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization * Demonstrated organization and problem-solving skills * Excellent analytical skills * Must be able to read CT scans, lab values, etc. to be able to properly assess & code injuries

PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

* Previous experience in an Emergency Room, ICU or Trauma Care Environment.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

* Graduate of an approved RN Program * Association of the Advancement of Automotive Medicine's Abbreviated Injury Scale Course within 12 months of being hired * Trauma Registry Course that includes the following content within 12 months of being hired: abstraction, data management, reports/report analysis, data validation and HIPAA * ICD-10 course within 12 months of being hired * Society of Trauma Nurses TOPIC Course within 12 months of hire
