Director of Accounting Job at Robert Half in New York

We are seeking a Director of Accounting, based in Brooklyn, New York, to join our wholesale/distribution industry team. In this role, you will oversee financial analysis and reporting, manage audits, and undertake strategic planning, among other duties. This role provides an opportunity for you to leverage your skills in annual inventory, month-end close, financial reporting, audit, and J.D. Edwards to make a meaningful impact on our operations.

Responsibilities:

• Oversee the preparation and issuance of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting packages in accordance with GAAP and other technical pronouncements.

• Take charge of financial systems design and implementation to streamline our accounting processes.

• Manage the monthly close process by ensuring all corporate financial transactions are accurately reflected in journal entries.

• Supervise the management and administration of capital projects to ensure they are delivered on time and within budget.

• Maintain strong banking relations and manage cash to ensure the company's financial health.

• Lead the design and review of internal controls to safeguard the company's assets.

• Oversee tax planning and reporting, including sales tax, 1099, 1099R, W-2, etc.

• Manage accounts payable and accounting departments to ensure smooth operations.

• Foster strong relationships with suppliers and customers to build lasting partnerships.

• Implement advanced financial accounting software and computer enterprise systems to improve efficiency.

• Oversee staff development and training to ensure constant growth and improvement within the team.

• Review and approve invoices to ensure they are accurate and legitimate.

• Accounting/Finance degree

• CPA a plus

• 10+ years Accounting experience, with prior experience in a Controller/Director of Accounting capacity

• Wholesale/Distribution/CPG experience preferred

• Strong team management/mentorship experience

• Strong Excel skills
