Launched in 1983 as Public Interest Projects, a 501(c)(3) public charity, NEO Philanthropy is a New York based national leader in innovative philanthropic solutions. We lead large-scale collaborative grantmaking funds on a range of social justice issues and develop organization and field-focused capacity building initiatives. NEO offers fiscal sponsorship services to projects and affinity groups working in the social justice arena that do not have 501(c) (3) tax-exempt status. Fiscal sponsorship broadens the funding avenues that a project can pursue, since nonprofit status is required for funding by most foundations, corporations, and government agencies. NEO has also helped all types of donors maximize their resources, support work they could not do on their own and gain access to strategic and cutting-edge advice around issues and philanthropic practice. NEO offers donors a range of ways to work with us - through donor advised funds, pooled funds, specialized grant programs and initiatives. These customized programs allow our donors to minimize their administrative costs to maximize their impact. NEO currently hosts over 60 fiscal and donor sponsored projects.
Position:
Reporting to the Accounting Manager, the Accounting Specialist is mainly responsible for handling NEO's entire accounts payable (A/P) process on a weekly basis, including invoice review, invoice entry, and payment run. In addition, the Accounting Specialist will review corporate credit card reports on weekly basis and assist with the month-end and year-end closes by making accurate and timely entries. The position is required to be detail-oriented and highly organized, while working effectively/ collaboratively within the team and with other departments. NEO and the Finance Department provide a supportive work environment with opportunities for growth.
Location:
NEO Philanthropy has its headquarters in NYC and the Finance department are based in that office. NEO HQ has a hybrid work remote structure based on job function. It is our expectation that this role will be able to come into the NY office either once or twice a week, remaining remote for other days of the week.

Qualifications:
Compensation:Compensation for this role will vary depending on the experience of the candidate. The salary range for this position is $60,900 - $68,000 per year. NEO provides generous benefits, which include medical, dental, vision, life, long-term disability, and pet insurance. Responsibilities:
Accounts Payable
- Responsible for accounts payable (A/P) function including:
- Review vendor invoices, grant payments and reimbursements for appropriate documentation.
- Ensure that all supporting documents are in compliance with internal guidelines and policies.
- Make/import accurate A/P data entries into NEO's finance system.
- Ensure that the weekly payment processing (check & ACH/wire) is done on a timely manner.
- Maintain consultant schedules and encumbrances timely and accurately.
- Handle vendor communication or correspondence via phone or email.
- File, maintain, and distribute A/P documents, records, and reports.
- Prepare monthly/weekly invoices for payment.
- Maintain a strong financial control environment.
Corporate credit cards
- Review corporate credit card reports on weekly basis including:
- Reconcile reports with statement
- Ensure that transactions are in compliance with internal guidelines and policies
- Ensure that coding is accurate and consistent
- Make/import accurate data entries into NEO's finance system
General Ledger/Accounting
- Assist the Accounting Manager and Assistant Director of Accounting with the month-end and year-end close by preparing monthly and quarterly journal entries.
- Reconcile various accounts by identifying errors in posting or omissions.
Other Responsibilities
- Backup responsibilities for other Finance Team members when needed.
- Other duties, or special projects as assigned by the Accounting Manager and Assistant Director of Accounting.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in finance/ accounting or related field
- 1-3 years of relevant and progressive work experience with a non-profit organization;
- Solid understanding of not-for-profit accounting principles and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP);
- Strong verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills;
- Strong ability to analyze financial information and reports;
- Advanced working knowledge and proficiency in MS Excel;
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, and strong follow through;
- Work effectively and collaboratively in a team environment as well as independently;
- Manage multiple tasks in fast-paced work environment and meet deadlines;
- Knowledge of financial software operations;
- Knowledge of Salesforce; and
- Mission-driven and passionate about social justice.
