We are seeking an accounting professional to assist the Director of Accounting in managing the accounting team. This job will be a hybrid position with part of the work week spent in the office.
Responsibilities:
- Accounts Payable
- Oversee and manage the day-to-day operations of the Accounts Payable (AP) department within a fast-paced manufacturing/retail environment
- Ensure timely and accurate processing of invoices from overseas and domestic vendors and posting of payments made via checks and wire/ACH.
- Generate weekly reports and work with the Production and Finance Teams to ensure payments are made on a timely basis in line with cash management.
- Improve the accuracy of existing vendor accounts and manage the creation of new accounts and work with third party vendor in issuing 1099s at year end.
- Close Process
- Assist the Director of Accounting with the financial close process (retail month, quarter, and year-end)
- Guide accounting staff to ensure quality and timeliness of deliverables and entries.
- Process / System Improvement
- Manage and/or support the implementation of system improvement initiatives and the interfacing of multiple systems.
- Partner with the Director of Accounting to continuously evaluate systems and procedures to ensure that the operations of the department are being run in the most efficient and effective manner and aligned with company objectives.
- Sales Taxes
- Work with IT Department to ensure the accuracy of Sales Taxes accumulated through Store and Web selling activity.
- Audit Sales Tax filing and remittance to various jurisdictions processed by third-party vendor (Avalara).
- Audits/Business Taxes
- Assist the Director of Accounting in managing the yearly internal audit.
- Facilitate annual & state audits by responding to audit requests and addressing audit findings.
- Work with outside accountants to ensure filing and payment of business taxes.
Skills and qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field from a four-year accredited college.
- 5-7 years of relevant prior experience.
- Previous people management experience preferred.
- CPA designation preferred, not required.
- Retail experience is an asset.
- Team player with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
- Demonstrated process leadership capabilities.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams and present financial data effectively.
- Must be flexible, with the ability to adapt to changing business needs and facilitate change in a dynamic work environment.
- Highly Proficient in Microsoft Office applications especially Excel, Great Plains accounting system and other similar accounting / finance systems.
- Proven analytical skills, with the ability to interpret data, conduct variance analysis, and make data-driven decisions.
- Precision and a keen eye for detail are necessary to maintain accurate financial records.
- A proactive problem-solving attitude to address discrepancies and improve processes.
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
