TalEx is working with a non-profit to identify a Business Systems Analyst for a contract role located in Washington, DC.
Position Summary
The Business Systems Analyst (BSA) must be capable of acquiring business requirements and translating them into functional specifications documents. She/he must be able to develop test strategy, test plans and conduct testing of applications. The BSA must have the ability to work independently and take initiative while working effectively as a senior member of a project team. He or she has substantial experience in the software quality assurance testing, QA process and other aspects of Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) methodologies, and Software testing tools.
Required Skills and Knowledge
- Planning related to the tasks associated with business analysis and the software development lifecycle (waterfall, Agile).
- Stakeholder Analysis to identify the stakeholders who will be impacted by the change and understand their influence and authority levels.
- Risk assessment using methods to identify risk, probability, impact and how to mitigate those risks.
- Facilitation skills for meeting management, and requirements workshop planning and management.
- Elicitation techniques to gather information at the right level of detail and scope to represent all stakeholder needs.
- Manage Requirements to understand the requirements change process and traceability.
- Communicating Requirements, including the use of presentation skills and the ability to create a requirements package.
- Organizational Analysis to identify current capabilities and opportunities for improvement.
- Developing and analyzing Request for Information (RFI) and/or Request for Proposal (RFP).
- Utilizing various modeling techniques such as process modeling, data modeling, system modeling.
- Interface analysis, understanding of technology infrastructure and how it interconnects, including sharing data to achieve a business goal.
- Writing requirements using different approaches such as use cases, activity diagrams, sequence diagrams and state charts, data dictionaries, class or entity relationship diagrams.
- User experience, knowing how a user interface helps the user to successfully complete a task, also known as usability.
Education/Experience/Technical Knowledge
- Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience. 4+ years of experience as a Business Systems Analyst and QA Coordinator.
- Experience with developing and analyzing Requests for Information (RFI) and/or Requests for Proposals (RFP).
- Specifying inputs and formatting outputs to meet users’ needs.
- Developing specifications, diagrams and flowcharts for programmers to follow.
- Experience with Microsoft Office Visio, Microsoft Project, and SharePoint Services (MOSS) 2007 as well as project management.
- Familiarity with a bug tracking system (JIRA preferred).
- Familiarity with the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) process.
- Experience testing web-based applications and reports.
- Experience with mapping test cases back to requirements.
- Experience with creating automated test cases.
- Experience working with diverse, cross-functional teams.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills. Must be able to communicate effectively and confidently with users, team members, and management.
- Demonstrated facilitation skills using interviews, surveys, focus groups, and workshops. Proven experience at driving consensus across multiple stakeholders.
- An ideal candidate would have BA experience related to Scholarly Publishing and/or peer review.
