PT - Welding Lab Aide

Salary: $15.00 per hour

Summary of Function: Assist faculty and students in maintaining the automotive labs and classrooms in a neat and orderly manner. Set up the lab for classes and prepare materials per instructions to facilitate faculty/student lab activities. Assist in preparing and maintaining lab inventories and reports for the faculty/program coordinator. Other duties as assigned.

Typical Duties:
  • Serves Students. General lab cleans up, maintenance, and lab inspection reporting deficiencies to the faculty.
  • Prepare materials i.e. cut, sort, clean, and stack.
  • Review and prepare metal, gas, and equipment inventory reports.
  • Participate in work-related safety, metal preparation, equipment, and welding equipment training to provide support for instructional activities related to welding lab technology i.e., ironworker metal shear, CNC plasma cutting, automation welding, oxyfuel torch, and carbon arc cutting equipment.
  • Take part in program (welding) workshops, events, and club activities.
  • Fill out time entry at the end of each scheduled work week.
  • Assists with making copies, and helping students during lab portion when the instructor is occupied elsewhere.
  • Support and participate in strategic planning initiatives and performs other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:
  • At minimum a second-year welding major with prior experience working as a student in the AWC Welding Lab.
  • Metal preparation, i.e. metal shear, CNC plasma cutting, automation welding, oxyfuel torch, and carbon arc cutting equipment.
  • Experience with welding equipment.
  • Additional experience, education, and training is preferred.

Classification:
  • Non-Exempt

Position Type & Work Schedule:
  • Part-time
  • Up to 19 hours per week
  • Work flexible schedule to meet the program, department, and/or institutional needs, which may include Fridays, nights, and/or weekends

  • Knowledge of and ability to interpret, apply, and follow college policies and procedures
  • Knowledge and understanding of work-related safety procedures
  • Skill in current technologies and word processing, database, presentation, and spreadsheet software, specifically Microsoft Office applications, Windows
  • Skill and ability to be self-directed and to manage one's own time
  • Ability to complete all departmental and/or institutional mandatory training or development
  • Ability to organize, work independently, prioritize, follow multiple projects and tasks through to completion, with close attention to detail
  • Ability to contribute to a collaborative team environment
  • Ability to provide assistance for diverse populations in a professional and supportive manner
  • Ability to communicate effectively, verbally, in writing, and in a public setting, and to relate to others in a professional manner

Work Environment:
  • PPE required as needed
  • Working environment may include indoor and/or outdoor locations as needed to support program, department or institutional needs

Physical Demands:
  • Prolonged periods of standing and/or walking
  • Lift, carry, push, and/or pull, at times a minimum of 30 pounds
  • Occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and/or twist
  • Must be able to navigate various departments of the organization's physical premises
