ESTIMATOR
Job Duties
Estimating Job Responsibility
• Complete take offs including counting fixtures, devices, equipment devices and low voltage; lay
out and measure branch circuits home runs, feeders and distribution utilizing Blue Beam.
Request quotes from vendors and subcontractors.
• Read and highlight notes
• Read and highlight specs
• Estimate jobs per specs, and NEC code.
• Walk jobs or assign task as necessary.
• Input into CONEST
• Prepare Scope Letters (Scope is detail outlining scope that may overlooked by completion, goal
to have GC use our scope letter to verify if our completion scope is complete)
• Develop relationship with GC estimating department.
• Let GC know we are bidding or declining to bid.
• Follow up with GC and maintain estimate bid log tracking results.
• Determine if GC buy out jobs through Estimator or Project manager.
• Identify to management potential opportunity from bid and determine best strategy to secure
project.
• Becoming proficient at CONEST and Blue Beam
• Utilize Build Connect to manage Bid Calendar, Vendor and Subcontract quotes, and Bid log.
• Turn project over to Operations.
• 10:00 AM bids: Scope letter to be complete by 2:00 PM the prior day, take off to be complete
by 2:00. Estimate to be reviewed by end of prior day.
• 2:00 PM bids: Scope letter to be complete by 4:00 PM, Take off to be complete by end of prior
day. Estimate to be reviewed by 10:00 am the day of bid, pending vendor quotes.
• Know the actual time GC bid jobs. I.e. if GC bids at 2:00 we need to have pricing at 1:30, If GC
is Construction manager then it is ok to turn in at 2:00
• Review Contract and Scope prior to signing.
• Walk estimated jobs during rough, trim out and final. Goal is to visualize what is being built is
what was estimated.
• Review with Project management rough in or construction drawings.
• Pricing from Vendors and Subcontractor are to be kept confidential, answer please give me your
best price.
• No commitments to Vendors without involvement from project management.
• GME policy is to purchase from the low vendor on bid day.
• Offer VE to GC on negotiated bids, I.e. MC cable or AL feeders, relocation of transformers.
• On negotiated bids or construction manager bids, identify shortcoming of drawings.
• Work with other estimators or project managers in assembling estimates.
• Ask for help to complete bid timely.
• Assist other estimators to complete bid.
• Estimate Low Voltage or Service departments projects.
• Work as team with estimating, project management, service and low voltage.
• Additional objectives as assigned by management.
CONEST Management
• Identify assemblies that need to be modified and or created to match field installation.
• Create Temporary Assemblies to match field installation or to facilitate take off.
• Maintaining adjusting material pricing
• Use of supplier exchange for pricing or obtain blankets from vendor.
• Maintaining adjusting rental rates.
• Adding material items with labor as necessary
• Creation and modification of assemblies
• Review Sure Count to discern if use would increase productivity.
• Other duties assigned by management
Estimating Management
• Bid Selection
• Bid assignment to your estimating team.
• Use of Build Connect
• Work with management to determine best opportunity to bid, Job or General Contractor
• Work with management on turn over process and establishing budgets to be entered into
Computer Ease.
• Review Contract and Scope prior to signing.

• Ask for help on days with multiple bids.
• Maintain and monitors goals for Quarter and Year. Goals-Customers, Bid Ratio, Assembly

consistent process, providing detailed turnover package, create assemblies to match installation.
• Develop GME and Estimating Team Procedures
• Other duties assigned by management.
