We are seeking a detail-oriented and analytical individual for our (Senior) Estimating / Cost Engineer role. The ideal candidate will be responsible for preparing accurate cost estimates for manufacturing products that support Stamping, Fabricating, and Machining (CNC). This role requires the oversight and execution of timely and efficient production processes while leading other team members in the estimating department. This role involves collaborating with various departments, including engineering, production, quality, sales, procurement, as well as vendors or suppliers to provide comprehensive and accurate estimates that support project proposals and budget management.
Key Roles and Responsibilities:
- Cost Estimation:
- Analyze specifications, drawings, and proposals to determine project or process requirements
- Develop Process Routings, Review Process Methods for all manufacturing processes
- Review and select approved outside vendors for the customer's special processes
- Prepare detailed cost estimates for materials, labor, outside services and overhead based on historical data and market research
- Develop and maintain cost databases to improve estimating accuracy
- Cost Analysis:
- Analyze projects for performance against budgets and forecasts, identifying variances and providing insights for corrective actions or opportunities for improvement
- Collaboration
- Work closely with sales, engineering, production, quality, and procurement teams to gather necessary information for estimates
- Participate in project meetings to understand scope changes and their impact on cost
- Documentation:
- Create and maintain accurate records of all estimates, including assumptions, calculations, and supporting documentation
- Prepare comprehensive reports and presentations for management review
- Risk Assessment:
- Identify potential risks and uncertainties in estimates and suggest mitigation strategies
- Monitor market trends and changes in material costs to adjust estimates accordingly
- Continuous Improvement:
- Contribute to the development and refinement of estimating processes, systems, and tools
- Develop relationships with new vendors and suppliers to increase process capabilities.
- Develop and improve existing or new raw material suppliers to reduce lead-time and cost.
- Stay updated on industry's best practices and technological advancements in manufacturing estimation
Supervision:
- Coach, Mentor, and Lead the estimating team.
- Set workflows, expectations, and ensure timelines are being met
- Evaluate and review Team Members skillsets and abilities
- Develop growth and training plans for team members with executive staff
- Bachelor's degree in: Engineering, Manufacturing, Cost Accounting, or related field
- Proven experience in estimating within a manufacturing environment (10-15 years preferred)
- Strong analytical and mathematical skills with high attention to detail
- Ability to operate CAD programs (Solid Works or AutoCAD) to review or interpret drawings
- Proficient in estimating software, Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word), MS Power BI
- Experience utilizing manufacturing ERP systems (Global Shop a Plus)
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams
- Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes, materials, and industry standards
- Project management experience is a plus
- Familiarity with Lean manufacturing principles is an advantage
- Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Demonstrated self-starter with the ability to work independently without direct supervision
- Ability to complete projects using current manufacturing methods, processes, and resources
- Ability to identify and recommend new manufacturing methods, processes, and resources required to manufacture products
- Keeping clear objectives, loyalty to the project, open communications with the proper individuals and a sincere and healthy work attitude will facilitate the respect that this position deserves

- This position may require occasional travel to manufacturing sites, supplier locations, or trade shows
- The work environment is typically a combination of office and production floor settings
- On-Site 4.5-day work week (45-50 hours)
