Position Highlights

The University of Arizona Cancer Center (UACC) is a National Cancer Institute-designated comprehensive cancer center dedicated to the prevention and cure of cancer through patient care, research, and education. The Cancer Research Training & Education Coordination (CRTEC) office within UACC was established in 2018. CRTEC's goal is to promote the development of the next generation of cancer researchers and health professionals.

The CRTEC office seeks an Administrative Associate that supports the CRTEC team. This position supports the CRTEC office by coordinating activities for the CRTEC programs intended for students interested in cancer research. This position helps the team prepare for student professional development and networking events, evaluating program successes and implementing feedback, and providing marketing assistance to reach intended student audiences.

Duties & Responsibilities

Coordination:

  • Supports the department by coordinating activities for the Diversity in Cancer Research (DICR) undergraduate students 10-week summer program. This includes providing logistical support for coordinating the schedule of weekly classes, coordinating networking opportunities, training and professional development sessions, and the culminating poster presentation.
  • Working with the CRTEC team and Skin Cancer Institute (SCI) partners within UACC to assemble and drop-off the K-12 Mobile Oncology Training Education and Recruitment (MOTER) kits to local schools. May provide input to the material and content included in the kits.
  • Support the CRTEC team in building out programming as needed.
  • Coordinating and collaborating on special projects and other tasks as assigned.

Enrollment:

  • Organizing and maintaining files as needed and record-keeping including gathering applications for the DICR programs.
  • Drafting correspondence and sending email campaigns to local and national schools and colleges to provide and exchange necessary information to recruit student applicants.
  • Coordinating with HR team to provide information to set up program participants with UA credentials. Setting up the students in the necessary training and courses as dictated by grant requirements.

Evaluation:

  • Assisting in data tracking for all CRTEC programs through evaluation surveys.
  • Maintains a list of program participants and conducts follow-ups with participants after the programs end to see if long term goals are met.
  • Assists the team in preparing and submitting the annual report.

Event Assistance:

  • Coordinates the orientation, culminating events, and networking meals for CTREC's three summer programs.
  • Assist with planning and executing the DICR Post-baccalaureate socials and professional development opportunities during school year.

Marketing Assistance:

  • Coordinates with Cancer Center Administration and Communications teams to provide input to and distribute social media and marketing materials.
  • Assisting the CRTEC office to publish a monthly newsletter with student news and opportunities.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs):

  • Working knowledge of data and evaluation tools such as Excel and Qualtrics.
  • Ability to collaborate with colleagues to effectively manage competing job responsibilities.
  • Ability to work independently and proactively to meet position goals and deadlines.
  • Ability to maintain a high levels of customer service.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills (oral and written) and ability to collaborate with a diverse team.
  • Ability to occasionally attend program events in the evening and/or weekends.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent, and a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience; OR
  • Associate's
    degree and a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience; OR
  • Bachelor's
    degree and a minimum of 1 year of relevant experience; OR
  • Any equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • Ability to drive according to the University Fleet Safety Policy. Incumbent must be able to travel to program events locally and in surrounding counties.

  • Bilingual in English and Spanish.
