We are looking for a Cost Accountant for our facility in Skokie, IL. The Cost Accountant will be responsible for the ongoing analysis of process constraints, target costing projects, margin analysis, and tracing costs back to underlying activities. Additionally, the position will also construct and monitor those cost-effective data accumulation systems needed to provide an appropriate level of costing information to management and assist the plant finance team in month end closing responsibilities. The ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced manufacturing environment is essential to your success at Tenneco. RESPONSIBILITIES:
Work directly with the controller to establish standard costs on all manufactured and purchased parts. Updates new parts for bill of materials, routers and overhead rates monthly. Assist in the preparation of the operating budget and forecasts on a monthly and annual basis. Analyze and prepare journal entries at month end, quarter end, and year end close. Analyze and prepare balance sheet reconciliations at month end, quarter end, and year end close. Analyzes material and labor variances to suggest improvements within the current process. Interact and communicate regularly with operations, human resources, engineering, logistics, as well as corporate in order to enhance or improve current processes. Assess inventory control measures and develops measures to improve inventory accuracy in conjunction with the Plant Controller, Logistics, and Operations. Maintains inter-departmental relationships at a caliber to promote confidence, integrity, and cooperation. Support for the timely completion of financial statements and subsequent reporting to Tenneco management. Supports adherence to internal audit policies and procedures and ensures compliance to internal controls. Assist in the enforcement and tracking of month end close deadlines. Ensure proper shop order, sample order, scrap reporting and analysis. Maintain that company policies and programs are effectively made known; cooperates and assists in the development of effective financial metrics and communications. Maintains departmental efficiency regarding timeliness and quality of reports and procedural requirements. Create ad hoc reports, analysis and special projects as required by management. EDUCATION:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance preferred.
SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:
Five years of accounting/finance experience with increasing responsibility Knowledgeable of accounting databases Good understanding of accounting mechanics Cost accounting experience Familiar with SOX and internal controls Strong analytical, communication, and organizational skills High degree of accuracy and attention to detail Good interpersonal skills necessary to interface with a wide variety of internal and external contacts Strong Microsoft Office skills and experience Demonstrated experience with large ERP systems, ideally SAP Ability to prioritize multiple conflicting requests appropriately Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment Experience within the automotive industry preferred
