Northrop Grumman Space Systems – Launch and Missile Defense Systems (LMDS) has an exciting career opportunity for a Principal/Sr. Principal AI Software Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located in Colorado Springs, CO.
Position Overview:
The selected qualified applicant will support a growing portfolio of programs and IRADs that focus on missile defense and hypersonic technologies and will be a core contributor toward advancing the artificial intelligence and machine learning products for critical national security missions.
Some domestic travel (up to 10%) may be required, dependent on program needs. This position will be the primary developer of innovative AI/ML products supporting a variety of critical missions.
Seeking candidates who find satisfaction in working on challenging and diverse assignments in collaborative settings across all levels.
This requisition may be filled at a higher grade based on qualifications listed below.
This requisition may be filled at either a Principal AI Software Engineer or a Sr. Principal AI Software Engineer level.
Basic Qualifications (Principal AI Software Engineer)
Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline preferred from an accredited university and 5 years of related experience or a Master’s degree in a STEM discipline and 3 years of related experience, or 1 year with a PhD.
Ability and willingness to travel up-to 10% to support business needs
Applicants must have a active in-scope U.S. Government DoD issued Secret security clearance at the time of application which is required to start.
Experience leveraging AI/ML technologies to increase efficiency of legacy processes
Experience with neural networks, reinforcement learning, and image classification
Experience with common software engineering languages, such as C, C++, Java, Python, and other object-oriented languages
Experience with DevSecOps tools
Familiarity with single and distributed GPU training for Deep Learning/Reinforcement Learning architectures
Experience with python libraries, such as NumPy, SciPy, TensorFlow, and Pandas
Ability to self-start and work autonomously and collaboratively in a team setting
Demonstrated ability to learn new domains (i.e. kinematics/signatures/orbital mechanics/etc)
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Demonstrated ability to adapt industry research papers for use within defense and national security products

Salary Range: $121,400 - $182,000
Salary Range 2: $151,100 - $226,700
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
