Overview

Department 425, Instrumentation and Control Systems and Software, Cybersecurity and Network Administration and Support group, is seeking a Control Systems Security Engineer. The primary responsibility of this position is to serve as a control system security consultant for electric and propulsion plants for VIRGINIA, COLUMBIA, and SSNX submarine classes.

Experience and Knowledge

The role of the control systems security engineer is to evaluate functional requirements, equipment operating context, and environments (shipyard and commissioned vessel) and processes in order to provide recommendations and guidance with respect to cybersecurity controls, customer imposed security requirements, and practices. The objective is to ensure that cybersecurity principles are applied to system designs for operational use as well as to the methods that are implemented for protecting the equipment during ship construction and test. Related responsibilities include equipment research, project management, risk management, preparing presentations, and participating in customer design reviews.

Control System Security Engineers on our team typically perform the following types of work:

Control system security analysis and design implementation, including the development of component specific requirements, working in close collaboration with component engineers DoD/DoN platform information technology system analysis, development of security control implementation plans, system certification and continuous monitoring Design, implementation, operation and maintenance of sensitive unclassified and classified computing systems in accordance with appropriate Naval Reactors and Defense Counterintelligence Security Agency (DCSA) security policies Review of equipment vendor software deliverables to evaluate compliance with cybersecurity requirements Acquisition of infrastructure used to configure shipboard systems and support of this infrastructure during shipyard testing

Qualifications

Required

Bachelor of Science degree or higher in Systems/Computer/Electrical Engineering, or equivalent technical degree 2-10 years of relevant system engineering and/or engineering experience

Preferred:

Master's degree in Systems/Computer/Electrical Engineering, or equivalent technical degree Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), A+ or equivalent certification Understanding of NIST 800-53 documentation US Navy submarine service Active Final DoD SECRET clearance Experience/Interest in security of control systems
