Job Details:
We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Assistant Controller to join our nonprofit organization in the Accounting and Finance industry. The ideal candidate will be a proactive, hands-on individual who is passionate about making a difference in the community and has a solid background in nonprofit accounting. The Assistant Controller will be responsible for assisting in the preparation of the annual NYS Consolidated Fiscal Report (CFR), ensuring compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), and managing monthly reporting activities.
Responsibilities:
Assist in the preparation and completion of the annual NYS Consolidated Fiscal Report (CFR) and other financial reports as required. Ensure all accounting practices are in compliance with GAAP and other applicable regulatory guidelines. Oversee and manage the monthly, quarterly, and annual closing process. Prepare and present monthly financial reports, including budget variance reports, to management and board members. Assist with the development of budgets and financial forecasts. Collaborate with external auditors to ensure successful audit results and compliance. Contribute to the development and implementation of organizational financial strategies. Continually review and recommend improvements to processes and procedures to increase efficiency and effectiveness. Provide leadership and support to accounting staff, fostering an environment of learning and growth. Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required; Masters degree preferred. Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation is required. Minimum of 5 years of experience in a similar role within a nonprofit organization. Demonstrated experience with nonprofit accounting, including fund/grants accounting. Proven knowledge and experience in preparing the annual NYS CFR. Strong understanding and application of GAAP. Proficiency in using financial software and MS Office. Strong analytical skills with attention to detail and accuracy. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate financial information to non-financial staff. Strong leadership abilities with experience in staff development and team building. High level of integrity and dependability with a strong sense of urgency and results-orientation.
