Overview
The Senior Systems Engineer will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining the company's Windows server infrastructure across multiple business units (BUs). The engineer will ensure high availability, performance, and security of the environment, which includes significant usage of Hyper-V for virtualization. This role will also lead projects involving infrastructure upgrades, patch management, automation, VMware to Hyper-V migrations, and VMware update projects. The engineer will collaborate with cross-functional teams to support business operations, while adhering to ITIL best practices for incident, problem, and change management.
Responsibilities
Windows Infrastructure Management: Administer, monitor, and maintain a large-scale Windows Server environment (2016/2019/2022). Perform regular health checks, backups, and disaster recovery tests for mission-critical applications. Implement and manage Active Directory (AD), DNS, DHCP, Group Policy, and domain services across the enterprise. Use tools like PRTG and other monitoring platforms to monitor system health and performance. Ensure all Windows systems adhere to security policies, patch management, and compliance frameworks such as ISO, SOC, or NIST. Respond to and mitigate security incidents by collaborating with the security team to enhance the Windows infrastructure's security posture. Hyper-V Virtualization:
Design, deploy, and maintain Hyper-V clusters to provide a scalable, highly available virtualized infrastructure. Manage virtual machine (VM) lifecycles, including provisioning, maintenance, backup, and decommissioning. Troubleshoot performance and resource utilization issues within the virtual environment. Implement Hyper-V Replica and other disaster recovery solutions to ensure continuity of business operations. Manage storage provisioning, LUN management, zoning, and performance monitoring of SAN arrays. Multi-BU Support:
Collaborate with various Business Units (BUs) to gather requirements and provide tailored infrastructure solutions. Ensure Windows and Hyper-V environments meet the needs of different BUs, aligning IT solutions with business goals. Implement access controls, resource partitioning, and delegation of administration for BUs while maintaining centralized control over the environment. Cloud Integration:
Assist in designing and implementing hybrid-cloud solutions involving Azure, AWS, or other cloud providers. Implement cloud backup solutions and integrate on-premises Windows servers with cloud services (e.g., Azure AD, Office 365). Assess opportunities for migrating workloads to the cloud and recommend best practices for cloud adoption. Project Leadership and Collaboration:
Lead large-scale projects, such as server migrations, infrastructure upgrades, and performance tuning. Work closely with networking, and security teams to maintain cohesive operations across the infrastructure. Provide mentorship and guidance to junior team members and offer technical leadership for cross-team initiatives. Be a
team player without an ego , able to collaborate effectively across multiple teams, while valuing input from all stakeholders. Ensure that all team members feel valued and respected, promoting a culture of collaboration and mutual support within the team. Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Technology, or related field (or equivalent experience). 8+ years of experience in Windows Server Administration, including significant experience with Hyper-V/VMware in an enterprise environment. Experience working in an environment with structured IT service management (ITSM) processes. Proven experience working in a large enterprise with multiple Business Units (BUs), supporting diverse infrastructure needs and managing infrastructure segmentation across different organizational units. Operating Systems : Expert in Windows Server (2016, 2019, 2022). Familiarity with Linux Systems Administration. Virtualization:
Strong experience with VMware, Hyper-V, including Hyper-V clustering, VM replication, and virtual networking. Automation:
Proficient in PowerShell scripting and automation of Windows administration tasks. Monitoring : Familiarity with monitoring tools such as PRTG, SolarWinds, or equivalent. Networking : Solid understanding of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, and virtual networking. Security:
Knowledge of Windows security practices, including Active Directory hardening, patch management, and incident response. Cloud:
Experience with cloud platforms, particularly Azure (Azure AD, AWS, etc.), and hybrid-cloud environments. Preferred Qualifications
Demonstrated experience planning and executing migrations from VMware to Hyper-V. Experience managing updates, upgrades, and integration of VMware environments. Exposure to other virtualization platforms (e.g., ProxMox) and an understanding of multi-hypervisor environments. Experience with Linux administration for cross-platform systems integration and management. Administer, support, and troubleshoot Storage Area Networks (SAN)
used in conjunction with Windows and VMware environments. Configure and manage
Fiber Channel switches
for SAN connectivity, including zoning, masking, and troubleshooting connectivity issues. Administer, support, and troubleshoot Storage Area Networks (SAN) including

Compensation & Benefits
The pay range that the Company reasonably expects to pay for this position in Massachusetts is $125,000 - $145,000; the pay ultimately offered within the expected range may vary based on business considerations, including job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and education. The position is bonus-eligible, and there are medical, dental, and vision benefits available. There is a 401k saving plan and other benefits, such as Paid Time Off, Life Insurance, and an Employee Assistance Plan.
