TITLE: IT/CYBERSECURITY CAREER TECH EDUCATION TEACHER JOB STATUS: FLSA EXEMPT REPORTS TO: BUILDING PRINCIPAL DEPARTMENT: ACADEMICS AND STUDENT LEARNING

POSITION SUMMARY:

The position requires a qualified and passionate Career and Technical Education (CTE) Teacher to lead our high school IT and Cybersecurity program. The successful candidate will prepare students for careers in technology through hands-on learning, project-based instruction, and opportunities to earn industry certifications and/or college credit. This role emphasizes real-world experiences to equip students with the technical and professional skills needed in today's workforce.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS: Required:

Hold or qualify for a valid Ohio Career-Technical Education (CTE) teaching license in Information Technology or Cybersecurity, or ability to obtain one. A minimum of five years of work experience in IT or cybersecurity or equivilent (for those not currently certified). Valid Ohio teaching license in Computer Science (7-12), Business and Information Technology (7-12), or Career Technical Education (IT/Cybersecurity). Preferred:

Industry certifications (e.g., CompTIA Security+, Network+, Cisco CCNA). Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, Software Engineering, or related fields. Professional experience in IT, cybersecurity, or software development. Familiarity with project-based learning and industry standards. Skills and Abilities:

Strong classroom management and communication skills. Proven ability to engage students in hands-on, technology-driven instruction. Commitment to reflective practices to improve instructional approaches. Understanding of the importance of literacy and professional skills in the career field.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

Teaches foundational and advanced concepts in cybersecurity, programming, networking, app development, and IT. Designs and delivers engaging lessons aligned with career-technical content standards, district goals, and general workplace readiness. Prepares students for industry-recognized certifications, such as CompTIA Security+, Network+, Cisco CCNA, and programming certifications (e.g., HTML, C++, Java). Guides students in project-based learning, labs, and real-world applications of IT and cybersecurity concepts. Incorporates professional skill instruction into daily lessons to enhance career readiness. Supervises and coordinates out-of-class learning experiences, including field trips, internships, and CTSO (Career and Technical Student Organization) activities. Collaborates with business and industry partners to provide students with authentic, real-world opportunities. Participates in advisory committee meetings, staff meetings, and professional development activities to ensure the program remains current with industry trends. Maintains a classroom environment conducive to effective learning using strong classroom management strategies. Ensures the safety of students. Establishes and maintains cooperative professional relationships. Remains free of any alcohol or nonprescription controlled substance and abuse of any prescribed controlled substance in the workplace throughout employment in the district. Exhibits professional behavior, emotional stability, and sound judgment. Serves as a role model for students in how to conduct themselves as citizens and as responsible, and intelligent human beings. Understands the legal responsibility to help instill in students the belief in, and practice of, ethical principles and democratic values. Maintains confidentiality and respect for confidential information at all times. Other duties as assigned by the Superintendent or his/her designee.
