American Express Global Commercial Services (GCS) is the leading payments provider for businesses and corporations of all sizes, with small business being the largest customer segment. The Global Commercial Services Marketing team (GCSM) is responsible for making business membership essential by creating and delivering world-class marketing for our differentiated products and services that drives demand and inspires engaged card members across the customer lifecycle. GCSM markets a breadth of products across charge, lending, co-brand, and corporate cards. It also markets small business banking and B2B solutions. The Vice President, Marketing Business Operations will be responsible for leading GCSM into the next phase of operational excellence and control management. This individual will directly support the newly formed GCS Control Management Governance team to ensure GCSM follows the foundational governance structure to ensure day-to-day operational risks are identified, assessed, and managed in compliance with enterprise Operational Risk Management programs and reporting. This individual will coordinate key control processes across GCSM such as PRSA, complaints monitoring, and audit findings to ensure visibility and timely compliance with our control obligations as marketers. This role will be required to work cross-functionally with key stakeholders from across the enterprise including GCS Control Management Governance, ECMX, EDDS, Marketing Transformation Office, and Technology to ensure proper control management. Key Responsibilities Establish foundational plans to support operational risk management within the GCSM business unit, in accordance with the GCS Control Management Governance policies and regulation. Ensure the systems GCSM has in place to track and identify issues are satisfactory within the risk framework established by GCS Control Management Governance. Uphold BU-specific procedures and additional standards (i.e., escalation protocols), related to the execution of the Operational Risk Management programs. Facilitate the education and understanding of risk management mitigation practices across the BU. Own and manage all BU PRSAs (Process Risk Self-Assessment) to ensure they are accurately followed. Own any ad hoc audit or governance requests of the BU. Be a key leader for sharing insights, better practices, themes, etc. across the enterprise. Minimum Qualifications Understanding of critical operational risk management lifecycle activities. Positive “roll-up your sleeves” attitude, a proactive mentality, and a passion to win required. Excellent project management, communication, and interpersonal skills, with an ability to interact and obtain buy-in from senior BU/tech counterparts. Expertise in process governance, with a track record of establishing and overseeing robust decision-making processes that align with policies, regulatory frameworks, and/or operational standards. Strong internal partner management skills with proven ability to influence & negotiate. Strategic, analytical, problem-solving mindset; ability to problem solve and make decisions or drive to fast resolution. Familiarity and subject matter expertise in digital, marketing, operational excellence, and/or customer centricity. Critical thinker with the ability to continuously evolve marketing strategy based on data and analytics. Exceptional oral and written communications skills. A dynamic and committed people leader with proven track record of building impactful teams and cultures. Employment eligibility to work with American Express in the U.S. is required as the company will not pursue visa sponsorship for these positions. Salary Range: $185,000.00 to $260,000.00 annually + bonus + equity (if applicable) + benefits. The above represents the expected salary range for this job requisition.
