Tax Director
Reports To: VP of Tax
Location: Buckhead, Atlanta, GA (Hybrid/Remote - 3 days in office, 2 days remote)
Salary Range: Up to $170,000 - $200,000 base, plus 15% bonus target
Overview:
We are seeking an experienced and strategic Tax Director to join our team in a key succession planning role, with a projected advancement to VP of Tax within 3-4 years. This is a high-impact position where you will work closely with the VP of Tax to drive tax strategy, ensure compliance, and support the company's growth trajectory. The ideal candidate will have a proven background in tax planning, compliance, and policy implementation, with a strong preference for Big 4 and CPA credentials.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Tax Planning and Compliance
- Lead and implement tax planning strategies to optimize the company’s tax position while ensuring compliance with federal, state, and international tax laws.
- Oversee the preparation and review of tax filings, working closely with external advisors and internal teams.
Reporting and Forecasting
- Partner with the VP of Tax to develop and execute tax-related financial forecasts, reports, and analysis to support business objectives and financial planning.
- Monitor changes in tax laws and regulations, evaluate their impact on the company, and recommend actionable solutions.
Risk Management and Controls
- Design and oversee internal tax controls and compliance policies to mitigate risk and ensure alignment with regulatory requirements.
- Conduct regular audits and risk assessments, identifying and addressing areas for improvement.
Cross-functional Leadership and Collaboration
- Collaborate with finance, legal, and other departments to provide guidance on tax implications of business strategies and transactions.
- Serve as the go-to tax expert for the company, providing insights and support on mergers, acquisitions, and restructuring activities.
Team Development and Succession Planning
- Play an active role in mentoring and developing the tax team to support the company’s succession planning efforts.
- Prepare for the transition to VP of Tax through hands-on leadership, strategic input, and proactive alignment with executive goals.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA strongly preferred.
- Experience: 8+ years of relevant tax experience, ideally with a combination of public accounting (Big 4 preferred) and corporate tax.
- Technical Expertise: Strong knowledge of federal, state, and international tax regulations; experience with tax provision (ASC 740) and compliance.
- Skills: Strategic thinker with proven leadership abilities, exceptional communication skills, and a collaborative approach.
