Position Title Assistant or Associate Professor: Computer Science Job Type Faculty Position Information The Department of Computer Science and Engineering Technology at University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) invites applications and nominations for Assistant or Associate Professor of Computer Science positions in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering Technology in the School of Business and Technology. The position are nine-month tenure-track appointments and report directly to the Department Chairperson. UMES is located on the scenic Eastern Shore of Maryland in Princess Anne. As a Doctoral University ranked as the High Research Activity (R2), the Historical Black University offers instruction in 37 undergraduate areas of study as well as fifteen masters degrees and eight doctoral degree programs. The Department of Computer Science and Engineering Technology offers the following degrees: BS in Computer Science, BS in Engineering Technology, and three graduate programs, i.e., a Master of Science in Applied Computer Science, a Master of Science in Cybersecurity Engineering Technology, and an interdisciplinary joint Ph.D. program in Applied Computing and Engineering. The Ph.D. program has five concentrations, three of which are managed by the department, i.e., Cybersecurity, Data and Computational Science, and Software Engineering. Responsibilities Teaching expectations include instructing undergraduate and graduate courses in Computer Science in a variety of instructional modalities, including face-to-face, hybrid, and online. Actively seek external grants and publish scholarly work. Provide service to the Department, School, University, and/or professional community. Participate in course and program development activities. Participate in outreach and promotion activities. Participate in recruitment and retention initiatives, and activities. Motivate students to actively participate in all aspects of the educational process. Work, teach, and mentor diverse communities. Participate in professional data and computational science related organizations and conferences. Perform other related duties as assigned. Classification 25-0000 Education, Training, and Library Occupations Required Qualifications An earned doctoral degree. (Note: Individuals with degrees outside of the US may be subject to verification at the candidate's expense.) Expertise as documented by a terminal degree in either computer science, technology, engineering, computing, software engineering, or a closely related field. Demonstrated experience or knowledge of all facets of computer science. Demonstrated research experience in computer science, cybersecurity, computational science, software engineering, or closely related fields. Preferred Qualifications Demonstrated post-secondary teaching experience. Demonstrated online or hybrid teaching experience. Demonstrated experience working with diverse communities. Demonstrated experience in obtaining external funding. Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities Strong communication skills, including written communication. Excellence in teaching and a commitment to mentoring students. Competent in research and creative activities. Strong interpersonal skills.
