Director, Head of Capital Markets
Conversion Capital LLC, Menlo Park, CA, United States
About the Company
Pylon is the programmatic mortgage infrastructure platform; Enterprise-grade APIs, connected directly to Wall Street, for building and automating mortgage originations at scale. Our customers launch their own mortgage offering from scratch or seamlessly migrate from outdated legacy tech stacks to our programmatic mortgage infrastructure. We're backed by prominent investors including Conversion Capital, Peter Thiel, QED, and Fifth Wall as well as the founders of Blend, Mercury, Ramp, and AngelList. As we scale, we seek a strategic and hands-on leader to build and refine our Capital Markets function. They’ll support our growth through tactical optimization and drive longer term, market altering innovation.
About the Role
The Director, Head of Capital Markets will play a critical role in enhancing and delivering the company’s Capital Markets strategy. This will be a hands-on role, requiring the successful candidate to roll up their sleeves and manage day-to-day operations. It will require ownership of trade execution and risk management, while simultaneously laying the foundation for scaling the function, and the future of mortgage capital, as the company grows. This is not a standard mortgage capital markets role and we hold high conviction for a paradigm shift in how mortgage capital is priced and allocated. The ideal candidate will be an experienced, creative Capital Markets professional with a track record of innovation, operational excellence and strong collaborative relationships with institutional buyers and takeout partners.
This role offers the unique opportunity to build a high performing unique Capital Markets function over time while having an immediate impact on the company's success.
Key Responsibilities:
Innovation and Industry Leadership: Develop the company’s reputation as the forward-thinking leader in programmatic mortgage infrastructure, leveraging capital markets expertise and collaborative relationships to redefine how mortgage capital is accessed.
Execution and Risk Management: Lead the day-to-day execution of the company's capital markets strategy, including managing trade execution, pricing, and risk in the secondary market. Build and implement robust processes across the origination process, including institutionalizing our lock desk and managing the transition from Best Efforts to Mandatory/Bulk execution.
Takeout Partner Relationships & Expansion: Manage relationships with existing takeout partners as well as identify and onboard new ones where appropriate. Develop relationships with all institutional buyers who share our vision of the future programmatic mortgage world and work hand in hand with them to bring it to life.
Product Development: Collaborate with product, engineering, GTM and operations teams to provide capital markets insights into the development and launch of new loan products and product infrastructure. Ensure new products are designed with capital markets considerations in mind, including alignment with market demand and investor appetite.
Build & Scale the Capital Markets Function: Over time, recruit, hire, and scale the team as the function grows, building out processes, infrastructure, and capabilities for a fully developed capital markets operation.
Required Qualifications:
At least 7-10 years of experience in both Primary and Secondary mortgage capital markets, with a proven understanding of the mortgage origination and secondary market processes.
Track record of hands-on execution within a fast-paced, growth-oriented mortgage company. Ability to manage near term capital markets needs whilst simultaneously building for the future.
Established relationships with a broad network of institutional mortgage buyers, including banks, hedge funds, and GSEs.
Strong analytical skills with experience leveraging data to inform decision-making, optimize trade execution, and measure capital markets performance.
Strong external-facing experience, with the ability to represent the company and its capital markets function to executive-level buyers and partners.
A forward-thinking, open-minded approach to the mortgage and capital markets landscape, with a willingness to drive change through innovation.
This role requires 5 days a week in office (Menlo Park or New York City locations)
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working in an earlier-stage startup or high-growth environment, where adaptability and wearing multiple hats is essential.
Experience building or refining processes and infrastructure within a capital markets function, including lock desks, trading systems, and risk management tools.
Familiarity with the product development lifecycle in a mortgage company, particularly the integration of capital markets considerations into new product development
