The salary scale is as follows: Assistant Professor - $102,060 to $113,443 Associate Professor - $109,642 to $125,465 The position comes with generous benefits, including medical, dental, vision, and life insurance, and university contributions toward retirement. Recognizing the high cost of housing in the local area, there are two University housing assistance programs: Rental assistance to ease the transition into the local housing market, and housing purchase assistance for tenure-stream faculty. Purpose: Santa Clara University, a Jesuit, Catholic university, is seeking a qualified and enthusiastic individual to join us as a member of the faculty in Neuroscience (open rank) beginning fall 2025. As a faculty member in Neuroscience, you will have the opportunity to contribute to the vibrant academic community at our institution, engage with motivated undergraduate students, and help the program grow. Applicants must have a Ph.D. in a relevant field, a strong record of research scholarship, and experience teaching undergraduates. The successful candidate will teach six undergraduate courses per year on the quarter system, develop a research agenda that leads to peer-reviewed publications, and provide service to the department, College, and University, as appropriate to rank. The candidate should be prepared to develop and teach an upper-division course, as well as a balance of introductory, methods, and/or capstone courses in neuroscience. Job Requirements: Required qualifications: Applicants must have a Ph.D. or ABD (all but dissertation) in neuroscience or a related field. Potential to utilize inclusive pedagogical practices that advance SCU’s goals of diversity and equity. Preferred Qualifications: Post-doctoral research and/or undergraduate teaching experience, research published in peer-reviewed and/or other scholarly outlets. The candidate should have a five-year research plan that could be supported by external funding and provide opportunities for involvement by undergraduates. Leadership experience in undergraduate academic programs. Responsibilities: Tenure track faculty at SCU are teaching scholars who are expected to balance teaching, research, and service. This is an in-person position. More specifically, duties include but are not limited to: TEACHING Teach lower- and upper-division courses in the major and university core curriculum, as assigned by the director. Conduct and appear at all assigned class meetings in a timely and prepared manner. Assign and evaluate written work, projects, and exams that align with course or core learning objectives. Hold weekly office hours at times convenient to students. Assign and submit student grades that are appropriate, accurate, and fair measures of student performance. Administer evaluations in each section for all courses. Develop and teach courses that contribute to curriculum development in Neuroscience and/or the university core. Participate in assessment of student learning for courses in the Neuroscience Program. Provide informed advice and mentoring to undergraduate students. Fulfill other instructional or academic duties as may be assigned. RESEARCH Develop a rigorous research program that results in high-quality peer-reviewed publications. Establish a research program that can accommodate the participation of undergraduate trainees. Promote collaborative work within the Neuroscience Program or across different departments. Advance the diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives of the university. Endorse open science practices that promote transparency, replicability, and ethical scholarship.
