at Texas State University invites applications for a tenured or tenure track position in Aquatic Microbiology. We are seeking qualified applicants specializing in the study of the microbiomes of aquatic resources (e.g., natural marine, freshwater, or estuarinaquatic ecosystems, municipal water or wastewater systems, aquaculture or agricultural water sources and runoff, desalination plants, recreational resources, or urbanized waterways) by leveraging emerging genetic/genomic technology and bioinformatics.

The successful candidate will engage in university-wide collaborative initiatives to strengthen our research and mentoring efforts in emerging areas of microbial genomics, metagenomics, and biodiversity discovery. The candidate will be expected to develop an externally funded research program involving students that complements the strengths of our faculty and to teach in their area of expertise (e.g., microbiology, bioinformatics, genetics).

The selected candidate will be assigned the appropriate rank based on college and university rules and policies.

This position is subject to the availability of funds. Required Qualifications At the Assistant Professor level: • Earned Ph.D. in microbiology, virology, molecular biology, genomics, or related area • Record of peer-reviewed research publications in relevant fields such as microbiology, microbiomes, or metagenomic analyses related to aquatic systems • Postdoctoral or relevant professional experience At the Associate Professor level: • Earned Ph.D. in microbiology, virology, molecular biology, genomics, or related area • Record of peer-reviewed research publications in relevant fields such as microbiology, microbiomes, or metagenomic analyses related to aquatic systems • Postdoctoral or relevant professional experience • Minimum of five years of university-level teaching and research experience • Record of external grant funding to support research • Evidence of a nationally-recognized research program • Evidence of successful mentoring of graduate students and/or postdocs At the Full Professor level: • Earned Ph.D. in microbiology, virology, molecular biology, genomics, or related area • Record of peer-reviewed research publications in relevant fields such as microbiology, microbiomes, or metagenomic analyses related to aquatic systems • Postdoctoral or relevant professional experience • Minimum of ten years of university-level teaching and research experience • Record of past and current grant funding to support research • Evidence of a nationally- and internationally-recognized research program • Evidence of successful mentoring of graduate students and/or postdocs Preferred Qualifications At the Assistant Professor level: • Strong molecular biology and bioinformatics skills • Research experience in microbiology complementing the research strengths of the department • Record of teaching at the collegiate level • Record of grant funding to support research At the Associate Professor level: • Strong molecular biology and bioinformatics skills • Research experience in microbiology complementing the research strengths of the department • Documented record of excellence in teaching at the collegiate level At the Full Professor level: • Strong molecular biology and bioinformatics skills • Research experience in microbiology complementing the research strengths of the department • Documented record of excellence in teaching and service at the collegiate level Application Procedures Only applications received through Texas State University’s website will be considered: https://jobs.hr.txstate.edu/postings/50377
