Position Summary: The employee will be providing in-depth analysis of the US energy market with a focus on the US power and renewable market. They will report directly to the Head of US Power Strategy and have close interaction with the Head of US Gas and Power. The role will encompass the creation and maintenance of both new and existing fundamental supply and demand models as well as pricing models, which will then be presented in a usable format for the trading teams. This will allow the successful candidate to make a meaningful contribution to the US energy trading businesses.
Responsibilities:
Perform power and renewable market research and analysis directly supporting trading activities.
Report and communicate data to both research analysts as well as the risk takers; exploring price and fundamentals relationships.
Be a key contributor to efforts to:
Design, develop, and continuously improve both fundamental supply and demand, and power pricing models, that support the energy trading desk decisions.
Support and improve the power strategy team’s analytical tools.
Work closely with other analysts as well as with traders to identify market opportunities.
Perform ad-hoc analyses for trade ideas and other projects.
Qualifications:
Minimum of 1 year of experience in an analytical role covering North American financial markets - experience in commodity markets and specifically US power or renewables is a plus.
Bachelor’s degree in Physics, Computer Science, or related field with a very good understanding of statistics and microeconomics.
Individuals must exhibit strong communication skills as well as strong quantitative abilities.
Individuals must have the ability to solve loosely defined complex problems with minimal supervision.
Excellent computer programming skills are essential:
Proficient in a variety of programming languages (e.g., Python, Matlab, SQL).
Experienced in programming in an organization with a strict version control culture.
Strong knowledge of Excel.
Demonstrate a passion for markets, modeling, for the energy industry, and show a dynamic approach to learning. Continually expand upon your existing technical knowledge.
Demonstrate ability to successfully communicate and execute projects in a team environment.
