POSITION SUMMARY This full-time SEC Reporting Accountant position within JBG SMITH's Accounting Department will be a part of a five-person team that is responsible for all elements of the Company's internal and external reporting, including the preparation of our financial statements in accordance with U.S. GAAP and filed with the SEC. The position will also be involved with the research and documentation of complex technical accounting matters, supporting the Company's accounting treatment of both unique and recurring items while providing guidance on these issues to other internal stakeholders. The position reports to the Manager of SEC Reporting and the role offers a unique opportunity to collaborate with teams across the organization, while developing your skills working on challenging and rewarding tasks in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
Assist with the preparation of Quarterly and Annual Reports on Forms 10-Q and 10-K, quarterly supplemental information packages on Form 8-K, and related workpapers supporting the financial statements, footnote disclosures, MD&A, supplemental information packages, and the calculation of our key financial metrics;
Prepare quarterly analysis for complex areas of accounting including impairment, leases, equity, stock-based compensation, earnings per share and consolidations;
Coordinate with both internal and external auditors, providing the requested support and liaising with other teams internally;
Aid with the annual review and periodic updates to the Company's SOX control documentation, collaborating with control owners on narratives over the financial statement close and financial reporting processes;
Support the implementation and documentation of new or existing accounting standards released by the FASB and SEC, as well as internal accounting policies;
Research authoritative literature and technical accounting guidance to draft memorandums around complex areas such as acquisitions, dispositions, debt restructuring, lease accounting, and other unique transactions;
Effectively handle multiple projects simultaneously in a deadline-driven environment;
Collaborate with a variety of groups throughout JBG SMITH (property and corporate accounting, capital markets, asset management, legal, portfolio management, tax and capital projects accounting);
Complete special ad hoc projects on an as-needed basis.
WHAT YOU'LL NEED TO SUCCEED (REQUIREMENTS)
Bachelor's degree in Accounting;
CPA or currently in pursuit of or an active CPA license;
1-3 years of experience at Big 4/National accounting firm, and/or experience at a publicly-traded company;
Multifamily, commercial or construction real estate experience is preferred, knowledge of Yardi is a plus;
Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Excel skills and working knowledge of Microsoft Word;
Strong time management and organizational skills;
Ability to prioritize multiple tasks simultaneously and thrive in a fast-paced environment;
Team player who is organized, proactive, self-directed, conscientious and assumes accountability and responsibility for specific performance and work product;
Self-motivated and independent, detailed oriented, analytical, strong work ethic, and high integrity and ethical standards;
Ability to work well under pressure with tight deadlines;
Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
The salary range for this position is $80,000 to $95,000 annually. Please note that the salary range information provided is a general guideline. It is uncommon for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on a variety of factors.
