Gilead Sciences, Inc. is a research-based bio-pharmaceutical company that discovers, develops and commercializes innovative medicines in areas of unmet medical need. With each new discovery and investigational drug candidate, we seek to improve the care of patients living with life-threatening diseases around the world. Gilead's therapeutic areas of focus include HIV/AIDS, liver diseases, cancer and inflammation, and serious respiratory and cardiovascular conditions.
Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated Senior Research Associate to join our inflammation group. The candidate will be responsible for evaluating novel therapeutics in pre-clinical models of autoimmune and inflammatory diseases. Hands-on experience and knowledge of preclinical models of inflammatory autoimmune diseases is required. The successful candidate will be responsible for execution of in vivo mouse studies, ex vivo phenotyping of tissues and generating and communicating pharmacology data of preclinical models internally to support inflammatory target discovery for autoimmunity.
Primary responsibilities: Designing, conducting, analyzing and reporting in vivo studies (efficacy, PK/PD). Pre-clinical model development, optimization, and characterization. Ex vivo phenotyping of the immune response, using techniques such as animal tissue processing to isolate immune cells, multicolor flow cytometry to assess immune cell phenotype and function, gene expression profiling and ELISA. Coordinating shipment of ex vivo samples as needed. Interface with cross-functional project team members, and participation in and presentation at project team meetings and cross-departmental team meetings.
Qualifications & prior experience: Bachelors or M.S. in Biology or Pharmacology related discipline. 2-4 years of research experience in an industry setting or academic research institution with understanding of inflammatory disease pathogenesis. Hand-on research experience with mouse models of inflammation and proficiency with various mouse handling techniques including dosing (IV, PO, subcutaneous, IP), preclinical manifestation scoring (e.g., joint swelling, paralysis), and collection and handling of tissues during necropsy and processing for ex vivo analysis. Experience with processing tissues for flow cytometry and flow cytometric analysis is required. Excellent organizational and communication skills, along with the ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment. The ability to work independently on day-to-day responsibilities and research goals along with strong attention to detail.
The salary range for this position is: $107,270.00 - $138,820.00. Gilead considers a variety of factors when determining base compensation, including experience, qualifications, and geographic location. These considerations mean actual compensation will vary. This position may also be eligible for a discretionary annual bonus, discretionary stock-based long-term incentives (eligibility may vary based on role), paid time off, and a benefits package. Benefits include company-sponsored medical, dental, vision, and life insurance plans.
