Pension and Paid Personal & Vacation Days Position Description The Finance Director will work in partnership with the Finance Committee and staff of Murray First United Methodist Church to accurately maintain all financial records and to constantly seek the best way to be a faithful steward of the financial gifts and resources of Murray First. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following: Primary bookkeeping functions: • Maintaining numerous bank accounts for the church, including reconciliations of accounts and recording interest payments from investments. • Recording and depositing all money received for the general operating and designated funds into the appropriate bank accounts. • Providing weekly giving information for the bulletin and updates to the Finance Committee and Church Leadership Team. • Maintaining accurate contribution records, providing quarterly and year-end giving statements to all contributors. • Being responsible for payment of all church payables, including maintaining records of all church charge/vendor accounts, and reconciliation of monthly statements. • Processing payroll according to schedule, updating employee records accordingly and tracking employee benefits, including all necessary payroll tax reports. • Prepare and submit annual audit paperwork for workers’ compensation policy. • Tracking all budgetary expenses and providing periodic statements to each staff, ministry area, and committee with oversight of financial resources. Financial management: • Coordinating yearly audit/review of financial records and providing all information and documentation as requested by the auditor. • Coordinating with pastor on preparing reports/forms for Charge Conference and annual statistical reports and submit to the Annual Conference. • Producing annual budget draft and coordinating annual stewardship campaign. • Being transparent with all financial records of the church, with the exception of individual giving records and payroll. • Ensuring adherence to state and federal regulations applicable to human resource issues, in conjunction with the Pastor, Staff-Parish Relations Committee, and/or Board of Trustees. Other tasks and expectations: • Keeping a regular weekly schedule in the church office. • Attending staff meetings as well as meetings of the Finance Committee and Church Council. • Being willing to provide other assistance to fellow staff and congregants. • It is expected that the Finance Director will follow all Personnel Policies and conduct themselves in a professional and Christian manner. Preference will be given to candidates with an educational background or degree in accounting and professional experience in financial management.
