The company develops both hardware and software and this is a new role due to growth and to help them get public company ready. LOCATION:
San Jose. This is a hybrid role. JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Assistant Controller will lead the core accounting functions, collaborating closely with the Controller as a thought partner. This pivotal role will oversee monthly close processes, PCAOB US Audits, reporting, and accounting policies. This role requires deep technical expertise and the ability to solve complex problems across diverse subject areas. Reporting to the Controller, the Assistant Controller will collaborate extensively with cross-functional partners, including HR, Sales Operations, and the CFO. The Assistant Controller should be efficient in working in a fast-growing start-up environment, with a strong sense of operational aspects of the Accounting function, and help contribute to building a world-class accounting team. This role will partner closely on all aspects of improving the robustness of the Accounting function, ensuring the integrity and accuracy of the company's quarterly and annual filings, the ongoing operation of the company’s Finance function, and providing technical accounting analysis of significant transactions and recently issued accounting updates. This will be a highly visible role with C-Suite exposure and external constituents (e.g., auditors). What You’ll Do: Lead the core Accounting team, consisting of A/P, A/R, and Senior Staff Accounting positions Lead month-end close reviews and PCAOB financial audits Build out and manage processes to improve the efficiency of the Accounting function, as measured by meeting deadlines to close monthly books, and ensure that the G/L structure evolves to continually represent a useful view of the company Provide guidance and prepare technical accounting memos on critical positions Assist in implementing SOX controls and procedures, gearing towards an IPO Manage compliance with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings End-to-end management of complex cross-functional projects, including potential implementation of future ERP systems Partner with Finance on planning, management reporting, and treasury management Qualifications: A combined 8+ years of experience in operating companies and public accounting firms, in technology environments (SaaS and ASC 606 revenue expertise is a plus) with hardware inventory components Strong technical knowledge of U.S. GAAP and SEC accounting and reporting requirements Experience with NetSuite, Expensify, Carta or similar platforms Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills to drive tasks to completion Ability to motivate and influence all levels of management Education: Bachelor’s Degree or MS in Accounting Certified Public Accounting COMPENSATION: Determining compensation for this role (and others) at Vaco depends upon a wide array of factors including but not limited to the individual’s skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, office location and other geographic considerations, as well as other business and organizational needs. With that said, as required by local law, Vaco believes that the following salary range reasonably estimates the base compensation for an individual hired into this position in geographies that require salary range disclosure: $155K-$175K + equity.
