You will provide critical support to the Finance and Accounting team, as well as to senior business leaders leveraging our advanced gene engineering technologies to create life-saving cell and gene therapies for patients with high unmet medical need.
Position Summary
Reporting to the Executive Director, FP&A, the Sr. Director will support the Executive Director with the financial management and oversight of partner collaborations with Roche-Genentech and Astellas. Acting as the key financial liaison for the partnerships, this position will collaborate with the finance and accounting team, internal business leaders, as well as external partners to establish a strong working relationship and drive successful execution of the programs.
Responsibilities
Develop understanding of the relevant contractual agreements in detail including strategic intent, obligations, potential changes in partnership agreements and renegotiations to enhance value and identify/minimize risk. Support process for revising contractual agreements as they evolve.
Proactively supervise contractual obligations and outcomes to ensure responsibilities, current and future expectations are met, and overruns are avoided.
Accountable for financial models underlying partner revenue estimates as well as oversight on revenue recognition to include review and providing critical feedback on inputs to the models coming from business and finance partners.
Assist in maintaining/reviewing models and work plans to be continually current. Prepare updates to projections and actuals to support partner reporting requirements including operating expenses and headcount allocation tracking.
Form deep understanding of Poseida key business drivers in all areas of the business impacting the partnership such as research activities, clinical enrollment and manufacturing.
Update and strengthen partnering materials regularly using exceptional presentation skills.
Play a key role in support of partner meetings, working with alliance and program management to develop presentation materials to ensure effective governance.
Responsible as key financial liaison in external partner financial reviews to explain budgets and speak on variances to previously presented plans or new proposed work.
Provide insightful analysis of complex data to non-finance business leaders; deliver analyses and outputs that clearly communicate key trends and insights, variances to plan, opportunities and risks, leveraging and demonstrating a strong command of the business and its key performance drivers.
Drives business value by providing financial and analytical counsel to facilitate decision-making around strategic business initiatives, program and portfolio management.
Perform actual to budget/forecast variance analysis monthly including financial reports for the partnerships to senior management.
Support Executive Director, FP&A with relevant insights in assigned business areas for impact to cash projections.
Continually refine use of data systems and tools to track performance and metrics, provide reporting solutions and enhance operational insights.
Work collaboratively with the FP&A team to drive performance towards team goals.
Requirements, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
MBA and/or BS degree in Accounting/Finance/Scientific or Healthcare with 15 plus years of relevant finance experience (an equivalent of education and experience may be considered).
Strategic partner collaboration financial and relationship management experience required.
Previous biotech or pharmaceutical experience highly preferred.
Knowledge of US GAAP and revenue recognition.
Exceptional Excel financial modeling and analysis skills with strong emphasis on attention to detail and accuracy.
Strong skills with Microsoft Office Excel, Powerpoint, and Outlook to create compelling presentations for internal and external use.
Effective communicator who can develop strong relationships to facilitate collaboration outside the context of formal meetings.
Ability to influence teams to meet or exceed partnership deadlines consistently.
Proficiency in financial planning software (Adaptive or other).
Highly effective communication skills across all levels of the organization and with external partners.
Strong relationship building, collaboration and teamwork competencies.
Detail oriented, tempered with the ability to see the big picture.
Effectively manage multiple partnership support while ensuring accuracy and maintaining deadlines in high-demand environment.
