Tax Manager
to join our North America Finance and Control team at Vaisala Inc. located at Vaisala’s Louisville (Boulder County), Colorado facility. This is an exciting opportunity to take charge of indirect tax compliance across the U.S. and Canada. As the Tax Manager, you’ll oversee the full monthly tax cycle, from data analysis and submissions to balance sheet reconciliations. You’ll also play a key role in continuous improvement, leveraging tools like Vertex, SAP S/4HANA, and Stripe, and manage tax audits, government requests, and more—all while driving impactful change in the world of climate tech. office, you'll have the opportunity to work closely with cross-functional teams and tools to lead and improve our tax processes across the U.S. and Canada. What's your role? Process owner of indirect taxes in the United States and Canada as well as superuser of Vertex and Stripe applications. Ensure continuous development of the indirect tax processes leveraging the recently implemented solutions striving for an efficient and effective automated control environment. Provide guidance in all sales and use tax calculations supporting customer invoicing as well as supplier payments for US at state/local levels. Ensure indirect tax compliance for US/Canada including sales and use tax, gross receipts tax, and 1099 annual filings. Maintain submissions required for annual registration filings keeping Vaisala legally compliant for multiple government jurisdictions, including business licenses and other state or federal required submissions. Update and maintain our accounts on government websites with accurate email, contact information and required POAs. Prepare monthly data submissions to external tax preparer for US and Canada indirect tax returns which includes detailed analysis and final approval. Interact with external customers in order to resolve tax discrepancies or requests. Analyze and respond to all requests or inquiries from governmental jurisdictions in order to resolve indirect tax compliance issues in a timely manner. Lead all indirect tax audits, providing documentation and explanations to government authorities. Reconcile US and Canadian General Ledger indirect tax accounts including preparation of necessary manual correction journal entries. Provide guidance and training to internal employees for all US and Canada indirect taxes. Review state or other jurisdiction guidelines to determine whether Vaisala should register in new jurisdictions. Continual review and analysis of data including reconciliation between internal applications to ensure integrity and accuracy. Monitor state and other jurisdiction announcements for tax compliance to ensure correct rates and tax rules are applied. Respond to correspondence or inquiries from tax authorities and resolve outstanding issues. What will you bring? Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance, or related field and a minimum of 3-5 years of relevant US Indirect Tax Accounting experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience. CPA and/or master’s in taxation preferred. High competency to independently perform research to maintain accurate and ongoing compliance of indirect tax in multiple jurisdictions (US and Canada). Ability to analyze financial reports and prepare reconciliations including GL corrections through manual journal entries. Self-starting individual who is proactive, detail-oriented, independent, innovative and solution-oriented. Knowledge of overall financial data flow and processes. Navigate and prioritize tasks in a dynamic environment with continuous deadlines. Experience in Vertex, Stripe, or similar indirect tax software. Experience on S/4HANA is preferred. Ability to work within an environment with recurring deadlines and perform tasks with a sense of urgency. Working knowledge of the following areas: 1099s, sales/use tax law, including Canadian tax rules. Comprehensive understanding of state and local tax laws and the ability to read, understand, and apply applicable statutes to a variety of business situations. Experience with indirect tax audits. ANTICIPATED SALARY RANGE:
$100,000-$125,000 annually. (Salary is determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data).
