Position Description The Martin Luther King, Jr. Charter School of Excellence is seeking qualified applicants for a full time, academic year School Nurse position. This individual will work closely with the leadership and crisis teams. In addition, the School Nurse will communicate and collaborate with the School Physician.

esponsibilities Review and help revise as needed School Health Room Policies and Procdures in alignment with the Department of Public Health (DPH) and the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE). Complete ongoing continuous quality improvements programs and adjusts school nursing practice based on findings Review and help revise as needed written policies and protocols for the clinical services and programs addressing health issues Coordinate health services programs for students in compliance with statutes and regulations Utilize SNAP Health Center to maintain full and accurate health records (i.e. student physicals, student immunizations, screenings [vision, hearing, posture, BMI], daily visitor log, and medication log. Advise staff on and address day-to-day medical issues/needs and emergencies of students Manage order requests and storage of medical supplies and medication according to program, state, and federal guidelines Carry out communicable disease and infection control based on current guidelines for universal precautions Assist with case management of students with chronic health conditions Complete all school nurse required trainings (including but not limited to screenings, medicine delegations training, SNAP, etc.) Train staff in required epi-pen trainings and take delegation training to teach eligible staff to administer medications when you are absent Maintain prescription medications including epi-pen and inhalers at school Responsible for attending MDPH meetings Oversee the administration of all medication and treatments for all students according to guidelines set by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health Manage health related record keeping according to state and federal guidelines for all medications
Required Characteristics Self-starter Independent Reliable Strong verbal and written communication skills Strong interpersonal skills Proficient in Google Suite, Microsoft Office Suite, or related software Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail Excellent analytical, decision-making, and problem-solving skills Strong time management skills Passionate about public education and health education MLKCSE's mission and vision
Qualifications DESE School Nurse Certified Registered Nurse or BSN 2+ years of nursing experience preferred
Preferred Qualifications Experience preferred, particularly in an urban setting Bilingual (Spanish) candidates encouraged to apply
