Johns Hopkins School of Medicine is seeking a

Physician Assistant

for a contracted position at the Baltimore City Health Department Sexual Health Clinics. We seek a Physician Assistant with an interest in the promotion of sexual health, testing and treatment of sexually transmitted infections, diagnosis and management of HIV, HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP), and Hepatitis C treatment. The Physician Assistant will work as a provider at the Sexual Health clinics as part of a multidisciplinary team including Nurse Practitioners, registered nurses, patient navigators, point of care laboratory staff, phlebotomists, public health disease intervention specialists, and academic researchers. The Physician Assistant will work under the supervision of the sexual health clinic's medical director, an attending physician. Specific Duties & Responsibilities Clinic-based evaluation of patients, including detailed sexual history taking of sexual practices, sexual partners, risk factors for sexually transmitted infection, and contraception. Clinical care for people living with HIV: antiretroviral treatment initiation, laboratory monitoring, assessment of maintenance therapy, monitoring for adverse effects, primary care including health care maintenance specific to people living with HIV. Provision of HIV pre-and post-exposure prophylaxis care: offer health education regarding HIV PrEP options, order baseline and follow-up testing, interpret test results, prescribe appropriate HIV PrEP regimens, and coordinate closely with clinic registered nurses to support clinical decision-making. Clinical care for people with Hepatitis C infection: regimen selection, order baseline, and follow-up testing interpret test results, prescribe appropriate Hepatitis C treatment regimens, and coordinate closely with clinic registered nurses to support clinical decision-making. Focused physical examination including male and female genitourinary examination, and pelvic examination. Collection of patient specimens including urethral, vaginal, cervical, and pharyngeal swabs for gram stain, wet mount, culture, nucleic acid testing, and PAP smear/cytology. Ordering of relevant lab testing for sexually transmitted infection evaluation. Counseling of patients regarding the explanation of diagnosis and treatment, risk reduction for sexually transmitted infections, and HIV. Administer appropriate treatment and prevention for sexually transmitted infections. Refer patients as indicated to primary care, family planning, and other community services. Participate in quality improvement initiatives of clinic operations. Assist in precepting a variety of learners including medical students, nurse practitioner and physician assistant students, residents, fellows, and other health care professionals. Participate in research activities authorized by BCHD. Provides Emergency Services to the Baltimore City Health Department as needed.

Additional Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Sensitivity in providing care to racially, ethnically, culturally, and sexually diverse populations. Ability to work in a multidisciplinary, multi-organizational team setting. Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and follow-through. Effective communication skills as demonstrated by clear oral communication with coworkers and patients, complete and clear documentation in the electronic medical record.

Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's Degree is required. Certification by the NCCPA or similar national certifying body; Completion of a CAAHEP-certified Physician Assistant program. Must be licensed as PA in the State of Maryland. Experience may be considered in lieu of a bachelor's degree, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula. Current CPR certification. Must maintain current licensure and certification during the duration of employment. Completion of the JHH credentialing process is required before the start date. Completion of the American Academy of HIV Medicine Specialist certification is preferred and expected to be completed within 6 months of hire.

Preferred Qualifications Knowledge of sexually transmitted infections, HIV primary care, HIV PrEP, Hepatitis C, treatments, and resources. Knowledge of spoken Spanish.
