Role Summary
The Head of Investment Analytics is responsible for leading the development and delivery of critical balance sheet analysis, investment performance reporting, analytics, and data-driven insights to support NLG Capital’s broader strategic objectives. The ideal candidate will have a strong track record of success in leading teams and projects, as well as deep experience in balance sheet construction, investment analytics, performance measurement, and capital optimization.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Spearhead the design and execution of robust analytics frameworks focused upon key insurance-specific metrics (e.g. investment income, capital utilization, earnings growth) to ensure optimal balance sheet construction.
Develop and implement processes for portfolio analysis, investment performance reporting, and analytics that focus on what is most relevant to a general account mandate.
Conduct balance sheet construction and asset allocation analysis to evaluate the risk-reward tradeoffs across the portfolio, providing actionable insights on key metrics including income, earnings generation, risk profile, and capital efficiency.
Develop a robust performance evaluation framework that spans the entirety of our investment process, evaluating investment performance through the lenses most relevant to NLG Capital as an insurance investment manager.
Conduct capital optimization exercises, balancing strategic objectives with regulatory and balance sheet constraints and ensuring efficient capital usage across entities.
Support the implementation and execution of NLG Capital’s risk management framework across the overall portfolio and within each of our individual strategies and mandates.
Conduct asset analysis related to reinsurance strategies, assessing the investment considerations and impacts of various solutions to ensure strategic alignment with the firm's overall objectives.
Oversee the creation of robust analytics and reporting platforms that deliver timely, transparent insights into portfolio performance, positioning, and risks.
Responsible for the firm’s data architecture and data governance standards.
Participates in special projects and performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
10+ years of experience in investment analytics, with a proven ability to leverage data to influence strategic decision-making in asset management.
Degree in finance, business, computer science, economics, mathematics, statistics or other quantitative field of study.
Relentless desire for understanding how processes and technology works; creativity in solving unconventional problems, entrepreneurial drive to learn new skills and technologies.
Expertise in Python, R, or similar languages, with practical experience in data analysis, statistical techniques, and machine learning applications.
Experience working with large data sets and analytics used for investment workflows.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, capable of presenting complex analytics in clear, actionable terms.
Preferred Qualifications
Significant experience in insurance asset management or within an insurance solutions platform, with a deep understanding of constraints such as regulatory capital, ALM, and insurance-specific considerations.
Deep understanding of balance sheet management and capital optimization within insurance portfolios, including a solid grasp of regulatory frameworks (e.g., ALM, RBC).
Expertise in designing and implementing data governance frameworks that ensure consistent, high-quality data for investment decision-making.
Advanced degree in finance, business, or a related quantitative field of study.

The base salary range for this position is 175k-225k. We are open to varying levels of experience.
In addition to base salary, other rewards may include an annual bonus, quarterly bonuses, commissions, and other long-term incentive compensation, depending on the position. National Life offers a competitive total rewards package which includes: a 401(k) retirement plan match; medical, dental, and vision insurance; a company funded wellness account for director and below employees; 10 paid holidays; a generous paid time off plan (22 days of combined time-off for non-exempt employees and exempt employees have discretion in managing their time, including scheduling time off in the normal course of business, but in no event will exempt employees receive less sick time than required by state or local law); 6 weeks of paid parental leave; and 6 weeks of paid family leave after a year of full-time employment.
