The Department Chair will serve as the Director of Imaging and applicable health science programs, and will be a member of a diverse team that is given administrative release time to support student achievement and success from recruitment through graduation and beyond.
As a leader in the delivery of Imaging and Health Sciences programs across the college, the Chair will be strategically and operationally focused guiding the department through the advancement of research, education and clinical programs while expanding services throughout the county. The Chair will promote transparency and emphasize continued excellence in Imaging programs, in conjunction with expanding research and academic efforts throughout the college.
The Department Chair provides coordination, oversight, and day-to-day supervision and operation within the Imaging department. The Department Chair is responsible for planning and budgeting, course scheduling, evaluation of program coordinators, instructors, student evaluation of instruction, recruiting and employment of full- and part-time faculty, and student appeals as outlined below. This role will be assigned a teaching load in his/her field of expertise under the approval of the Associate Dean, Dean and Vice President.
Minimum Qualifications Required:
Hold a graduate degree from an accredited institution. Note: Degrees and hours must be from a college accredited by a United States Department of Education accepted accrediting agency such as SACSCOC.
Hold a current, unrestricted certification in an Imaging modality.
Professional certification as required.
Previous experience as an educator or preceptor at or above the academic level of an Imaging program.
Two calendar years full-time employment in an Imaging field in a healthcare setting.
Experience with Imaging program accreditation process or practice/industry related accreditation.
Three years of full-time experience serving in an administrative role in a health care setting.
Previous experience with accreditation and program review.
Previous experience with curriculum design.
Previous experience with program development and/or program expansion.
Background in relationship development with clinical and community partners.
Ability to establish and implement transformational goals.
Ability to lead multiple disciplines and programmatic offerings.
Be experientially qualified to lead the program to accomplish the mission, goals and expected program outcomes.
Maintain competence in the areas of assigned responsibility.
Experience with appropriate technology including Microsoft Office and/or Google Workspace, spreadsheets, presentation and collaboration apps and software.
Ability to work in a diverse environment.
Preferred Qualifications Preferred:
Three (3) or more years teaching experience in an academic environment.
Experience teaching hybrid, online, and/or multimodal courses.
Understanding of and commitment to the unique mission and vision of Forsyth Tech.
Demonstrated academic supervisory, leadership and/or project management experience.
Understanding of SACSCOC, assessment of student learning outcomes, and program level outcomes and program review.
Essential Duties Under the leadership and direction of the Divisional Associate Dean and Dean the following Essential Duties and Responsibilities will be assigned (other duties may be assigned):
Divisional Administration
Assume responsibility for teaching assignments as approved by the Dean.
Facilitate the learning process by designing and implementing inclusive instructional activities that are appropriate and meaningful and that maximize equitable student outcomes.
Adhere to the departmental course guidelines and ensure that content includes program, state, and SACSCOC-approved competencies.
Assume responsibility for accurately maintaining all required college records, including attendance and grade reports.
Consult with Program Coordinators/Lead Instructors and faculty regarding the selection of supplies, equipment, equipment repairs, textbooks for courses of study, and the scheduling of classroom and laboratory facilities.
Adhere to all institutional policies and procedures.
Compile resources of specialized materials for outside reading assignments.
Maintain equipment, inventory, and facilities according to acceptable standards to assure the availability to faculty.
Assess, prepare, and implement annual program goals in consultation with Program Coordinators and other departmental faculty for approval by the Dean.
Manage course enrollment and make decisions regarding course caps and overriding filled courses.
Hear informal student appeals and settle disputes between students and instructors.
Assess and plan the departmental budget as part of the divisions budget proposal to the Vice President.

Direct the advisor-advisee program for students within the department.
Teaching and Learning
Evaluate student performance using appropriate modalities.
Direct the development, implementation, and evaluation of the nursing assistant, associate degree, and practical nursing curricula.
Oversee, maintain, review, and update course descriptions, objectives, syllabi, and outlines for courses of instruction and develops new courses of study as necessary.
Serve as an academic instructor according to the Forsyth Technical College Position Description for Full-Time Faculty Member for the portion of duties outside of administrative release time.
Advise and mentor students towards the program completion.
Enhance student academic success initiatives to improve completion, retention, and equity of success in instructional areas of the college.
Participate in departmental activities relative to revising and updating the program(s) and with the development of new courses in the area of expertise.
Assist with the coordination of advising and registration procedures and processes.
Participate in department, division, and college-wide advising activities.
Learn and maintain proficiency with program requirements of assigned advisees.
Actively engage advising principles to support and follow up with students in the fulfillment of their educational and career goals.
Incorporate inclusive content and work to eliminate discriminatory and exclusionary content from curriculum.
Approve full and part-time teaching assignments and ensure equitable faculty workload in the Nursing department.
Ability to establish and implement transformational goals.

Faculty Development
Provide leadership of assigned team, lead efforts in recruitment, interviewing, and training employees, plan, assign, and direct departmental work.
Recommend teaching assignments for approval by the Dean.
Recruit credentialed and qualified full- and part-time faculty for teaching assignments.
Orient new instructors to the job’s responsibilities and to the College’s operations and policies.
Supervise and evaluate instructors as assigned by the Dean and makes recommendations regarding continuation or termination of employment.
Assume responsibility for informing all program faculty about institutional policies.
Recommend individuals to serve on curriculum advisory committee.
Coordinate interdepartmental goals to ensure alignment with college goals and vision.
Coach and provide ongoing performance feedback to employees, set realistic and measurable performance goals, and ensure employees have appropriate professional development opportunities.
Effectively manage performance and assist employees to meet established College standards and expectations.
Ensure that all personnel have adequate opportunities to participate in professional development activities and have the appropriate combination of degrees, certifications, and experience.
Contributions to Community
Serve on committees as required.
Maintain contact with specialized vocations where applicable.
Be alert to public relations opportunities and use these to promote the college and the department.
Plan and conduct nursing advisory committee meetings.
Provide administration with information for institutional publications.
Responsible for working with the College’s Educational Partnerships team to recruit students into programs within the divisions.
