A law firm seeks a skilled Patent Associate with over three years of experience in patent counseling, focusing on preparation and prosecution. This position is in Washington, DC, within a prominent Intellectual Property Department specializing in Chemical, Biotechnology, and Pharmaceutical practices.
Duties:
Draft and prosecute domestic and international patent applications.
Prepare legal opinions, particularly in the biotechnology field and similar technologies.
Conduct thorough legal research and analysis related to patent law.
Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to safeguard and manage intellectual property assets.
Maintain accurate and detailed records of all patent-related activities.
Requirements:
Minimum of three years of patent counseling and prosecution experience.
Proven ability to draft effective patent applications and legal opinions.
Education:
PhD in Biological Sciences (Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Genetics) or a related discipline.
JD from an ABA-accredited law school.
Certifications:
Current registration to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
Active membership in the Bar of the jurisdiction(s) where the candidate is admitted to practice law.
Skills:
Strong legal writing and research abilities.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
High level of analytical thinking and problem-solving capabilities.
Solid academic background, preferably with law firm experience.
Ability to work effectively in a collaborative environment.
