Job Description We are seeking a Summer 2025 Underwriter Intern for the Inland Marine Group in Chicago, IL. The Internship Program is a 10-week development initiative designed to provide professional growth with potential long-term opportunity for successful individuals interested in the Insurance/Reinsurance industry. Underwriting Interns work alongside the most experienced underwriters in the industry to gain in-depth knowledge of our business units and underwriting philosophy through on-the-job learning and workplace mentoring.

What can I expect as an Intern?

On-the-job Learning:

Sompo interns are immersed in the day-to-day activities of their team, assisting Underwriters in exposure analysis and operational analysis of insureds, compiling a competitor analysis from a publicly available database, working with Underwriting Assistants in developing renewal lists, contacting brokers for submissions, and accompanying underwriters during internal meetings and occasional external marketing calls.

Activities, Learning and Development:

Throughout the program, Interns will have the opportunity to hear from executive leaders, participate in structured, engaging leadership learnings, participate in networking events and activities with peers, members of our Executive team and outside brokerage firms, and be part of a project to present to their manager and mentor.

What will I need to be as an Intern?

Currently enrolled in a bachelor’s degree program with a minimum GPA of 3.0

Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Strong analytical, quantitative, and interpersonal skills

Ability to work in a fast-paced team environment with rapidly changing priorities and demands

Ability to collaborate is an absolute must

Strong proficiency using Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint); ability to analyze, consolidate and summarize findings in a PowerPoint presentation

Local to the desired office location or able to secure housing and transportation in the area

Eligible candidates must be at least 18 years old and authorized to work in the United States without restriction

Salary Range:

$20/hr Actual compensation for this role will depend on several factors including the cost of living associated with your work location, your qualifications, skills, competencies, and relevant experience.
