Job Summary:
The Cardiovascular Nurse (LPN or RN) Team Leader plays an integral role in delivering high-quality patient care, supporting physicians, and ensuring the smooth operation of the cardiovascular clinic while emphasizing their shared tasks such as leadership, patient care, documentation, and compliance. Whether in an LPN or RN capacity, the nurse will deliver essential care, assist with clinical procedures, and maintain accurate documentation. LPN Team Leader Specific Duties:
- Leadership and Staff Management:
- Supervise and manage the nursing team, fostering a professional and collaborative work environment.
- Ensure appropriate staffing levels and supervise daily nursing operations to maintain smooth patient care flow.
- Assist in recruitment, interviewing, and hiring of new LPN team members.
- Evaluate and coach nursing staff annually, providing recommendations for pay increases when appropriate.
- Ensure nursing team members comply with required annual training, licensure, and certifications.
- Patient Care and Coordination:
- Assist in providing direct patient care when necessary, especially during staff absences.
- Ensure nursing team members properly document patient care in the electronic medical record (EMR).
- Coordinate with physicians and other team leaders to ensure effective patient care and clinic operations.
- Maintain communication with diagnostic staff to ensure smooth scheduling and provider coverage.
- Documentation and Compliance:
- Ensure all patient documentation is accurate, complete, and timely.
- Monitor and review nursing team members' documentation for compliance with CIS policies and state regulations.
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA standards and maintain patient confidentiality.
- Quality Improvement and Compliance:
- Promote adherence to CIS Quality Initiative goals for patient care.
- Collaborate with clinic leadership and staff on process improvement projects and LEAN initiatives.
- Ensure the nursing team adheres to best practices, policies, and compliance standards.
- Leadership and Staff Management:
- Provide leadership to the nursing team, ensuring high standards of care and professional conduct.
- Oversee the clinical and administrative functions related to the nursing team, ensuring efficient patient flow.
- Mentor and educate nursing team members, fostering a learning environment and providing guidance on clinical best practices.
- Assist in hiring, training, and evaluating nursing team members to ensure quality patient care.
- Conduct routine performance reviews and provide feedback to nursing staff.
- Patient Care and Coordination:
- Perform patient rounds, compile objective data, and communicate clinical findings to physicians.
- Actively participate in the planning and implementation of care in collaboration with the healthcare team.
- Administer prescribed medications, treatments, and provide direct care as needed.
- Ensure that all patient care is documented according to nursing standards, including progress notes, discharge summaries, and patient instructions.
- Documentation and Compliance:
- Ensure accurate and thorough documentation of all patient care activities and clinical findings.
- Participate in the review of patient records for accuracy, ensuring compliance with medical documentation guidelines.
- Ensure timely completion of patient records and assist with billing-related documentation.
- Monitor and report on therapeutic tests and procedures and ensure that results are communicated to the healthcare team.
- Quality Improvement and Compliance:
- Participate in quality improvement activities, ensuring that care meets or exceeds CIS standards.
- Identify opportunities for improvement and work collaboratively with leadership to implement changes.
- Promote patient advocacy, ensuring that patient rights and preferences are respected, particularly regarding medical decisions and end-of-life care.
- Ensure that all nursing staff comply with licensing requirements and maintain current certifications.
- Leadership and Communication:
- Foster teamwork, respect, and professionalism among nursing team members and across departments.
- Communicate effectively with physicians, team leaders, and staff about patient care, clinic operations, and any obstacles affecting workflow.
- Assist in coordinating the workflow between nursing and front office teams to ensure smooth patient visits.
- Participate in clinical and administrative meetings as needed to promote effective communication and continuous improvement.
- Operational and Fiscal Responsibility:
- Contribute to fiscal discussions related to resource allocation and operational efficiency.
- Work with other departments to streamline patient care processes, promote Lean initiatives, and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Ensure that nursing resources are used efficiently and within budget.
- Patient Advocacy and Education:
- Provide patient and family education regarding health conditions, treatments, and preventive care.
- Act as an advocate for patients, ensuring that their concerns and preferences are communicated to the healthcare team.
- Monitor and address patient satisfaction, working to resolve concerns and ensure quality care.
- Professional Development:
- Maintain current certifications in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS).
- Participate in continuing education to stay current with clinical standards and practices.
- Assist with the orientation and mentorship of new nursing team members.
- Stay informed of advances in nursing practice and medical technologies to ensure best practices are followed.
Qualifications:
- Licensure:
- LPN: Current, unencumbered Licensed Practical Nurse licensure in the state of Louisiana.
- RN: Current, unencumbered Registered Nurse licensure in the state of Louisiana.
- Previous clinical experience is preferred, particularly in cardiology or a related field and supervisory experience or willingness to learn supervisory functions.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification preferred.
- LPN: Ability to perform basic clinical procedures, accurate documentation, and patient care under the supervision of a physician or RN.
- RN: Advanced clinical knowledge, critical thinking, and decision-making skills. Proficiency with EMR systems and healthcare technologies.
