MAHEC is now hiring a Compliance Specialist to support operations with our Risk and Compliance Division.

JOB SUMMARY:

Performs administrative duties under the direction of the Director of Risk and Compliance and the Chief Compliance Officer with emphasis on maintaining the MAHEC Corporate Compliance Program, to include but not limited to: development of policies and procedures; identification and prevention of illegal, unethical or improper conduct; independent investigation and follow-up; employee education & training; performing audit processes for compliance; trending, evaluation and improvement activities; and data analysis and report writing.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

Promote the development and implementation of the MAHEC Corporate Compliance Program including:

  • Assists in maintaining and revising policies and procedures for the support of the compliance program and its related activities to prevent illegal, unethical, or improper conduct.
  • Reviews record releases and systems (i.e. Patient Portal, HIE) for HIPAA compliance.
  • Periodically reviews and makes suggestions for updating the Compliance Program and Standards of Conduct to reflect changes for MAHEC considering federal and state laws, rules, regulations and OIG Work Plan.
  • Assists in preparing reports on a regular basis for leadership, committee meetings and the Board of Directors and as requested or needed.
  • Monitors secure system for receiving direct and anonymous reports of perceived noncompliance.
  • Engages in the investigation, follow-up and summary documentation to reports of perceived noncompliance, including but not limited to, recommended corrective action plans.
  • Ensures that the HHS-OIG's List of Excluded Individuals and Entities and other sanction lists are checked and documented with respect to employees, physicians and independent contractors.
  • Maintains and conducts an effective compliance education program, under the direction of the Compliance and Privacy Officer, to include new employee orientation, annual training, and other organizational education as needed.
  • Assists the Compliance and Privacy Officer with planning, documenting, and executing compliance audits that support the Program.
  • Communicates and provides training and education on policies regarding regulatory compliance to ensure consistency across the organization.
  • Collaborates with leadership and departments to direct and respond to compliance concerns.
  • Identifies potential areas of compliance vulnerability and works with the Compliance and Privacy Officer to develop plans for resolution.
  • Consults with the Compliance and Privacy Officer and outside legal counsel as needed to resolve difficult legal compliance issues.
  • Assists the Compliance and Privacy Officer in supporting special projects, audits and additional accreditation needs of the organization (i.e. Graduate Medical Education (GME), Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA).
  • Support MAHEC's ethical and mutually respectful work environment by:
  • Performing all job-related responsibilities in a manner consistent with MAHEC's Compliance policies and Standards of Conduct;
  • Completing all Compliance training in a timely manner;
  • Reporting any concerns or perceived Compliance violations to the Compliance and Privacy Officer in a timely manner.

SPECIFIED SKILLS
  • COMPUTER
  • Excellent skills in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and database applications required.
  • FOREIGN LANGUAGE
  • Spanish speaking skills preferred.


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Any combination of training and experience equivalent to an Associate's Degree and a minimum of four (4) years of experience in healthcare and or compliance required.
  • PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Clinical and or administrative experience.
  • CHC certification. (required for Tier II Compliance Specialists)

SCHEDULE:

Regular attendance on-site is an essential function of this position. Typical business hours are Monday - Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm (or flexed to best meet the needs of the clients and/or the Division); 40 hours per workweek; weekend, holiday, or evening coverage is occasionally required. Work hours will need to be flexible in order to respond to special work assignments, or evening activities, as requested by the team leader.
