We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Accounting Manager to oversee our senior living communities that require SOX compliance. This role will be responsible for reviewing monthly, quarterly and annual financial reports, while ensuring the integrity of financial reporting and internal controls within the SOX framework. The ideal candidate will have strong analytical skills, ability to meet tight deadlines, and a proven track record in managing SOX compliance and financial reporting integrity.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the preparation and oversight of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for each senior living community.
  • Ensure financial statements comply with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and relevant regulatory requirements.
  • Analyze financial data, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements, and provide insight into financial performance to senior management.
  • Oversee budgeting and forecasting processes, working closely with department heads and senior leadership to develop and monitor financial plans.
  • Develop and enforce internal controls to safeguard the organization’s assets and ensure financial integrity.
  • Conduct periodic reviews and audits of financial processes to identify areas for improvement and ensure compliance with company policies and legal requirements.
  • Ensure adherence to state and federal regulations as well as organizational standards related to healthcare and senior living accounting.
  • Assist in the management and reconciliation of property and asset accounts, including fixed assets, depreciation schedules, and capital expenditures.
  • Track facility-related financial activities such as occupancy rates, resident billing, and facility-related expenses.
  • Oversee resident billing processes, including accurate and timely statement generation.
  • Provide support to the accountants in addressing billing issues/resident concerns.
  • Provide financial analysis to support operational and strategic decision-making, identifying trends and offering recommendations to improve financial performance.
  • Support management in evaluating potential financial risks and opportunities for growth, including expansion of services or facilities.
  • Supervise and mentor accounting staff, providing training, performance reviews, and ongoing professional development.
  • Foster a collaborative and positive work environment, encouraging teamwork and open communication.

Sox Internal Controls & Compliance

  • Develop, implement, and maintain the SOX compliance framework and internal control processes.
  • Coordinate and execute the annual SOX compliance testing and documentation.
  • Identify and assess financial reporting risks and control deficiencies.
  • Work with management to develop remediation plans and monitor progress.
  • Liaise with external auditors during the annual audit process.
  • Prepare necessary documentation and evidence to support audit requirements.
  • Provide training and guidance to accounting staff on SOX compliance and best practices.
  • Develop resources and tools to enhance understanding of internal controls.
  • Prepare reports for senior management and the audit committee regarding the status of SOX compliance.
  • Monitor the effectiveness of internal controls and propose improvements as needed.
  • Work closely with IT, finance, and operational teams to ensure that controls are integrated into business processes.
  • Interpret and communicate program and control information to senior leadership, including identified risks or issues and recommended remediation
  • Foster a culture of compliance throughout the organization.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • CPA preferred.
  • Minimum of 5-7 years of accounting experience, with at least 3 years in a management or supervisory role in a senior living, healthcare, or related industry preferred.
  • Proven experience with senior living accounting practices, including revenue cycle, budgeting, and compliance.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and accounting principles.
  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Aline, Eldermark, Point-Click-Care, Acumatica, etc.) and advanced Excel skills.
  • Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • High attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments.
  • Experience with regulatory compliance and knowledge of healthcare reimbursement systems (e.g., Medicaid) is a plus.
