The Douglas County Attorney’s Office in Omaha, Nebraska is currently accepting applications to fill a deputy county attorney position in the Civil Division. This is a county government in-house counsel and litigation position. Depending on the interests and experience of the applicant, areas of practice may include employment, contract, administrative, constitutional and tax law, risk management and compliance, litigation, and general legal affairs for the most populous county in Nebraska.
Job Duties:
Contract review and drafting
Inheritance tax review
Interpreting statutes related to public entities and providing legal advice to County Departments
Responding to public records requests
Representing Douglas County and its departments in civil lawsuits in state and federal courts
Additional duties as assigned by the County Attorney or designee
Salary and Benefits:
Salary is negotiable. For this posting and depending on experience, the anticipated pay range is $79,380 to $115,698 annually, with annual adjustments and step increases. For more senior Deputy County Attorneys, the pay range extends above $115,698. An excellent benefits package is included, plus paid parental leave. Telework is available per office policy.
Work Experience and Other Requirements:
Graduation from an accredited law school with a Juris Doctor degree, and licensed or eligible for licensure to practice law in Nebraska. A minimum of three (3) years experience required, but five (5) years of experience working as a licensed attorney is preferred. Employment law and general civil litigation experience is also preferred, but not required.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
Work is generally performed indoors in an office setting. Noise level is usually moderate. Hours of work are generally standard day-shift hours; however, work hours may occasionally include weekends, emergency call-ins, and additional hours. Incumbents may encounter uncooperative or irate persons while performing duties.
Work requires some physical activity, including extended periods of sitting and standing, frequent walking, and occasional balancing, kneeling, bending, and reaching. Work also requires the ability to frequently lift and carry supplies, equipment, and documents weighing up to 10 pounds and occasionally up to 25 pounds.
Required sensory abilities include vision, hearing, and touch. Visual abilities, correctable to normal ranges, include close, distance, and color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Communication abilities include the ability to talk and hear within normal ranges. Incumbent must possess the hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity necessary to operate computers and other equipment.
