What You Will Be Doing You will be responsible for processing the more technical employer payrolls, determining retirement system participation eligibility, reconciling member accounts, and determining if member account adjustments are required. You will independently provide support and training to staff as well as counseling and technical services to members, employers, and other entities regarding the State’s retirement plans. Become a trainer for staff and employers in order to spread awareness on reporting earnings and contributions for each individual retirement plan. You will expand your knowledge of the regulations for each fund and plan type and become an expert on troubleshooting our employer reporting tools.
Our Organization, Mission, and Culture The Division of Retirement and Benefits administers State of Alaska and political subdivision retirement and benefit plans so that customers experience excellent, accurate, and timely service; and members understand the value of, and effectively manage, their retirement and health benefits. The Active Payroll Team, where you will be working, provides support for the Division and works closely to ensure budgetary, accounting, and financial management are consistently accurate.

The Working Environment You Can Expect Our office setting is a large quiet space sectioned by cubicles for individual office areas. This position is located at 400 Willoughby, across the street from the State Office Building in beautiful downtown Juneau. Office hours are Monday through Friday, 8 am to 4:30 pm. This position is eligible for telework if circumstances warrant.

One year of experience as a Retirement and Benefits Technician 2 with the State of Alaska or the equivalent elsewhere. OR A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college. OR Two years of experience as a Human Resource Technician 2, PFD Technician 3, Administrative Assistant 2, Insurance Licensing Examiner 3, Accounting Technician 2, or Accountant 1 with the State of Alaska or the equivalent elsewhere.
